How often is he calling the plays on offense as opposed to Freeze? Everyone talks about how we need a off. Coord. But his resume looks pretty decent? Is he not calling any plays at all and Freeze just has him for no reason? Is he calling most of the plays?

Find this out. Right now!

From what I remember Freeze calls all plays on 1st and 2nd down. He gave Werner 3rd down calls.

Kind of disjointed, is it not?

I think Freeze was gunshy of all the 3rd and shorts he missed in his first 2 years and let Werner take 3rd downs. I'm sure they both were in communication at all times.

Is that really how they are doing it? That seems horrible.

This is believable.

Maybe they draw straws before the game.

All I know is Houston Nutt's playbook better go back in the garbage can from whence it came. Sometimes the play calling seems deja vu.

Werner is a pro-set guy that O hired to run the "USC offense." We were getting stuffed by LSU and Freeze started calling read-option stuff for Brent Schaeffer, and we really started to move the ball. O and Werner went back to making Schaeffer a drop back passer and we lost. Can't understand why we have a pro-set oline coach and qb coach. We need a good spread option oline and oc that can recruit. Plenty of spread teams (like TCU, Baylor, Okie State) do much better than us on the oline w/ similar or inferior oline talent.

That's a good point but how about Arizona, Mississippi State and Louisville? I don't think we get the most out of our oline because of coaching and play calling. They are bad but not that bad in terms of overall talent.

Bingo. Luke should be gone and Werner should be on the hottest seat on the staff. One of the main things that Freeze brought to the table was to get away from a pro style set and a do-more-with-less spread attack.

We have the receivers to do this, had a half way decent quarterback, but the line and play-calling were atrocious at points during the season. And yes-we had injuries and we're not as deep as we want to be, and Bro sucked sometimes, but that can't be the total excuse for the horrid LSU, Arkansas, and TCU losses, and the way in which we lost them. Our offense was simply atrocious during those games, and fair to middling others.

Beyond all of that, the Freeze/Werner/Nutt playbook is elementary and easy to scheme and expose.
