Rule #1: Never, ever, ever fire your existing coach unless you have a quantifiably better solution in hand to replace him. Otherwise, you end up with Ed Orgeron. And then it's you that gets fired next.

Signed: Pete Boone, esq.

Very true.

Reactionary, knee-jerk reactions like this usually don't work out too well

Ed O worked out for USC pretty well.

I think Ed O will do a solid job with LSU's talent. Should have hired him at USC.

I would not be shocked if Orgeron makes the decision a tough one. Especially if they can't get Herman or Fisher.

I think Miles is one of those guys that people won't truly appreciate for a while. If Saban was not at Alabama people would be talking about LSU's dynasty as one of the best of all time.

I don't think there's any way they're getting Herman or Jimbo. They're in a really tough spot. Miles swore up and down that he would open up the offense, and then refused to do it. He almost dared them to fire him.

But now that the deed is done, what's next? LSU fans are entirely unrealistic about who they will get. I think part of Alleva's plan for firing in Sept is to give the fan base 3 full months to get their minds around the fact that they aren't getting a Top 10 coach.

Am I the only person that would like to see us hire Les as the RB coach or a recruiter or something in that nature? I think he could really help our running game

Are you retarded? Les isn't coming here, or anywhere, in that role. He just made bank, like he needed it...

Am I retarded? No, are you? I'm not saying it's realistic I'm just asking if you'd turn him down. If so you might want to ask yourself who's retarded bud

Les is really rich and if he wants to continue coaching will get tons of head coaching offers.

Or, I suppose, since this is fairytale land, we can also throw in that we hire Saban after we get the death penalty and we all live happily ever after

Why would it be retarded for a dude in his late 60s to want and try to win one more title without the headaches of the HC, while also getting paid good money, before retirement?
But whatever bud, it's all just what ifs.

Why would it be retarded for Les Miles, a successful head coach with multiple sec championships and a NC, who is in his early 60s with at least 5 more good years to want and try to win one more title at Ole Miss, a school with no recent championships and possible probation, coaching a position he's never coached while also getting paid 90% less than his previous job and less than he'd make sitting out and collecting his buyout , before retirement when he could get much better jobs

Yeah, I notice a lot of Ole Miss fans really underestimate O's football knowledge and coaching ability. He's pretty open about the mistakes he made at Ole Miss and what he'd do different. Whatever he did at USC worked out quite well.

I don't want him as LSU's head coach, but he's certainly going to bring some much needed new energy to the team.

Slightly off-topic but it's so crazy to me that Les said the change would be best for their futures. It's like he almost conceded that it's time for someone else to take the reigns.
