How soon until we build either a parking garage or the new business/accounting school in this parking lot next to the Union? Seems like a perfect spot for people to use on gamedays plus during the week for access to class, the Union itself, or the dorms nearby.

Thoughts?

Parking would be hell with everything going right now.

Didn't they just build a new business school a few years back?

What problem do you face on a daily basis in regards to parking?

Holman hall (Business school) was built in '97

What you might be thinking of is the new law school

Also the old law school needs to either be torn down or compleatly renovated, it has the same terrible design as the student union.

Lamar, the old law school, WAS completely renovated...on the inside, either last year or the year before. It's one of the nicer buildings on campus now. The exterior definitely could use a facelift though.

Edit:

Parking is always hell. The school oversells permits so there's basically a guaranteed revenue from the permits themselves and from the inevitable parking tickets given to students who are looking for nonexistent student parking.

I thought it seemed extremely nice for how bad it looked on the outside the last time I went in there.

Check out the campus master plan. It's a little dated but not by much. They are planning on building some building with a cafe at the bottom or something. It's called the North Terrace Commons The cool thing is that they plan on getting rid of the rest of the parking lots beside Brown/in front of Crosby and making it a green space. Kind of like a quad.

Look on page 90 on the pdf

That's a good idea. They need to build parking garages between Kincannon and Kinard

Interesting story about Lamar: the lawschool was originally supposed to be built in downtown Jackson. The front of the Lamar building is actually the side that is on Alumni Drive facing the Alumni center and was supposed to front the street in Jackson. They decided to move it to campus and had to turn the building 90 degrees to fit it on campus in a cramped space. That's why the "front" of the building facing the grove looks so weird.

This type of shite is why we are so behind as a University and a state.

I definitely did not know that about Lamar/the original plans for that building. Completely no offense against Jacksonians, but I absolutely would not be seeking my JD through Ole Miss if it meant living in Jackson haha.

I don't have any problem with parking since I bought a permit to park in the parking garage. Yes it cost about $999,999,999 more than a normal permit, but I haven't had to fight for a spot or drive around 10,000 times to find a spot.

Jackson isn't that bad. Restaurant scene there is solid.
