Why do the people of Louisiana need the President of the United States to show up every time it floods?

Because with the president's arrival comes exposure which leads to help.

we don't need them to show up. All the whining for anyone to show up has come from outside sources wanting to smear the other side.

sorry we kicked your nazis asses in WW2

Obama waited a week after the Joplin Tornado. He suppose to be in Louisiana this week. A lot of it has to do with police, clean up, etc. Having the President there the week of a bad event is a cluster frick for security when you are cleaning, search and rescue, Roads closed, etc.

Did Obama sign whatever he needed to sign to give LA aid? That's all I care about. If he did, then by all means, continue his vacation. I'd prefer presidents to stay away from disaster areas until well after things have started to clear up. A president actually being on site would do more harm than good.

People are really overreacting to this.

Ding ding ding. Common sense

the president being there would do more harm than good to everywhere affected by the flood?

that's a big area to have a negative affect on.

me thinks the positivity brought about by press being there because the president is there would negate whatever negative affect it has on the few places he visits.

Not sure where this narrative that national media isn't covering the flood is coming from. I watched the news a few different times this weekend and they all had a segment on it. Eventually there's just not much news left to report on a disaster like that, but it is being reported still.

As for Obama, I think it was bad form for him not to take a few minutes out of his vacation to maybe hold a press conference. But really not a big deal, IMO. The LA governor has said he has been in contact and immediately released federal funds to help with the recovery, so what he has the power to do, he has done. But the optics of it are bad. I thought some of the criticism Bush got over Katrina was stupid as well.

I don't think Presidential candidates should be down there at all. They're only going for photo opps to give the impression they actually care when all they really care about is garnering some votes from it. That goes for Trump and Hillary.

Spleen, it was mostly last weekend when my house was taking on three feet of water and CNN was more concerned about Adele not being able to dance. The media coverage has picked up in recent days.

Gotcha. I guess everyone's perception is different, and from where I sit they've given the flooding about the same amount of coverage as other recent floods.

But certainly when you're experiencing it firsthand, it alters your perception, and I can see how they've come up short.

They've been great lately. We just need coverage in order to get more dollars flowing in. Lately, fine. I was upset early last week because I had need such little in major publications.

The scale here is incredible though. Some 60,000 homes flooded. The majority of a 135k pop Parish had a total loss.

I'm not going through the whole thread. But in Colorado, NOR has had stories about the flood daily. They even had another this morning. I've had dozens of people ask me if I had any family affected.

honest opinion is that Obama and Hillary don't think they're going to win LA so it didn't matter till Trump (who is going to win LA anyways) decided to go down there. Political or not, it's egg on Hillary's face.

Trump has become a different person this week. Offering an apology, using a teleprompter, toning rhetoric down a bit. makes for a different election cycle.

About sums it up for me. Oh, and Obama sucks and is a corrupt excuse for a candidate.

Doesn't really bother me. They aren't wanted or needed down here.
