The ban against Mr. Yiannopoulos, a technology editor at the conservative news
site Breitbart and known by his Twitter handle, @Nero, follows a campaign of
prolonged abuse against Leslie Jones, a comedian and costar of the recently
released “Ghostbusters” movie. The film and its stars have come under fire from
various parts of the internet for months, after it was first revealed that the reboot of
the 1984 film would feature an allfemale cast.
Ms. Jones in particular has borne the brunt of the online abuse in recent days,
especially since the release of “Ghostbusters” in the United States on Friday.
Hundreds of anonymous Twitter commenters hurled racist and sexist remarks at the
star’s Twitter account, rallied and directed by Mr. Yiannopoulos this week. The news
media picked up on the abuse after Ms. Jones began retweeting screenshots of the
litany of comments sent to her over the past few days.
On Monday evening, Ms. Jones quit using Twitter with a final message of
exasperation after days of nearnonstop abuse. “I leave Twitter tonight with tears
and a very sad heart,” Ms. Jones tweeted. “All this cause I did a movie.”

In a brief interview on Tuesday evening, Mr. Yiannopoulos said, “This is the
beginning of the end for Twitter.”
“Some people are going to find this perfectly acceptable,” he said. “Anyone who
believes in free speech or is a conservative certainly will not.”

It's a terrible move from an image standpoint, but they're a private company that provides a service that's free to users, so they are entirely within their rights to ban whomever the heck they please.
So, in SECR terms, my jimmies shook a little but they're nowhere near rustled.

Did he really call that black actress in ghost busters an ape?
He deserves to be kicked off Twitter and have his teeth kicked in if true.

Don't refer to rustling jimmies in a thread about Milo

He's trash and honestly, it'd be nice if Twitter took out more of the trash.
As a private company they're within their rights to ban people as they see fit (no different than any other social media website). And people have the right to either continue to use their services or to boycott them. Freedom of speech doesn't come without consequences in a case like this.

Honest question: What did Leslie Jones do to deserve being harassed with racist DMs on twitter? Star in a movie people don't like? I really don't know much about this issue but if he did something to violate Twitter's TOS then that's just what happens.

Some people called her an ape, I don't believe he did. Those people should get banned

Well, first he committed the mortal sin of criticising Leslie Jones’ comic performance in the new Ghostbusters movie, suggesting she was playing the victim instead of acknowledging criticism. “If at first you don’t succeed (because you’re work is terrible), play the victim. Everyone gets hate mail FFS.” Jones then informed Milo that he had been blocked and reported to Twitter, before going on to call one of his supporters a “racist b*tch” after he accused her of trying to limit free speech. Milo said her tweets were “barely literate.” Milo then jokes – to his followers, not to Jones – that he had been “rejected by yet another black dude” after Jones blocked him on Twitter. His final tweet on the subject included screenshots (later found to be doctored by trolls) of Jones engaging in racist abuse. In other words, Milo has been permanently banned for little more than criticism, mild insults, and mockery. Meanwhile, Jerome Hudson’s abuser, who repeatedly called the black reporter a “coon,” is still on the platform. So is Leslie Jones, who, according to Twitter searches, has repeatedly engaged in racist rhetoric herself — as well the plain old abuse of calling her critics “b*tches,” “a**holes” and a range of other expletives.

I think this is becoming a dangerous phenomenon with social media. You see it primarily with young fans of rival pop stars, think Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, or Beyonce fans (the "Beyhive") and whoever. People Stan so freaking hard for these celebrities and then overreact to every perceived slight by going on offense en masse to shame/harass/death threat the "rival" celebrity to a ridiculous degree.
Unfortunately I think this is going to become more and more common and could dangerously escalate in some cases. Firebrand celebrities get surrounded by social media acolytes who are primed and ready to go out and hurt someone at their idol's command. It's really sad how shitty so many people are.

I don't have an opinion. I don't think I like either person.

That's a pic of her. Was there supposed to be text or something? If you have a point I'm missing it.

It's a pic from a commercial she does. She's at a stoplight beside a dude. Looks at dude and says, "You want my number?" He looks terrified and turns away.
I just thought it was funny - THAT - and the fact that Milo referred to her as a dude

Twitter needed to make room for more kill police and pro ISIS accounts.
