Would you leave a job for a 43% raise?

In my current job I only work 40 hours a week if that. I have great benefits such as 14 holidays and over a months vacation.
If I were to leave, my hours would be 50-60 hours a week plus some weekends and maybe like 2 weeks vacation to start off.

Depends on a lot of variables compared to what you have now:
Change in location?
Commute to/from work? (especially if you're working longer hours)
Healthcare benefits?
What kind of work are we talking about and your age? If it's manual labor, 50-60 hours can wear on you after awhile.

43 percent of what? How much would that raise improve your life? Would it? How old are you? How much longer do you want to work? How long could you see yourself with this company? So many variables.

there's no way to answer that.
43% could be from the teens to the 20s or much, much higher. Same industry? Do you have a family? What about the commute? Are you ok having to work weekends? Room for growth? There's too many variables for us to contribute as the op is now.

It's a training position. Not much room for growth as training is more of a specialized area.
No family
Location is the same
Commute is about the same
I hate working weekends
43% would move me to high 60s low 70s
Early 30s in age.

Sounds like you would be working at least 43% more, so is it really a raise or just working more?

That is what I was thinking.

Me, three. Not giving up weekends.
At the end of your life, can you imagine looking back & thinking "I wish I'd worked more"?

Well, if you don't expect it to be the last job you ever take you could take into account that getting paid more can actually help you get paid more in future jobs. Strange that it works that way but it happens.

Thought the exact same thing... It wouldn't be a raise because of the extra hours and shortened vacation.

Unless you're struggling financially I probably wouldn't do it. If there was upward mobility maybe but if you're stuck there then no.
Unless you have nothing to do, then why not work more and make more money?

Doesn't sound like he works much now.... And if it takes 43% to get you into the low 60-70K range from where you are you aren't making shite to start with.
If you're smart and I don't think you are no offense intended, but you should take the opportunity and develop some type of work ethic and invest every cent of the difference in 401k, roth ira and start buying small portions of land paying cash for it under an LLC you create then in 2 years banks will loan on it to buy bigger swaths of land.
This won't happen because you are lazy and had coddling parents who spoon fed you. Just stay where you are and starve when you're old like a good democrat.

All depends on if you want to climb the corporate ladder with this organization or if you value having a laid back yet limited lifestyle.
eta: I'd lean towards taking the job as you don't have kids. Keep your lifetstyle and spending habits the same and stash back loads of cash so you have options down the road and savings to be prepared in case things ever go south.

Don't do it, time is way more important than money.

I would gladly give up some of my pay for more time off and better quality of life

Why you so mad?
If I stay here I'll have an pension. Keep working your life away. You'll probably die before you get to enjoy all of that land.

quote:Yeah not that I make a ton but my company pays me enough that I keep coming back for 60 hour weeks. I've been at it for 3 years and I figure It'd start taking a toll on my well-being at 5 years. I'd take 2/3 of what I make now for a cushy 40 hour job I enjoy. There's a very noticeable change in your quality of life when you get over 50 hours/week or so. At 60 hours/week your job is your life. I figure at 45 hours a week I could still have a nice balance.
I would gladly give up some of my pay for more time off and better quality of life

I'm doing like 70 a week now and it blows. Quitting in a month or two. As soon as that bonus check clears

If you're making 60K then you would be making 100K. I would go but that's me
