Recently got hired on to Morgan Truck Assembly.

Being 20 years old and bringing in 1200 every two weeks with 72 hours a week, that's pretty decent for me.

The only problem is my complete lack of experience. Which they said they would work around for me. I'm just hoping I won't get out there and make a fool of myself.

Just trying to get some friendly advice in here if anyone has a similar job

I'll miss football though, so thank god for DVR.

no young 20ish year old is ever qualified for a "career" (not job) that they are about to step into.

I have felt overwhelmed and underqualified at the responsibilities of every single job that i have ever gotten. in my mid 30s i still feel that way to an extent, even though i'm very successful at my current career.

you will grow into it.

I had a similar job when I was 20 at Taylor Machine Works. As long as you stay motivated and keep a keen willingness to learn you'll be better than fine in the long run. Don't take anything derogitory any of the older workers with the same job as you say, because it's probably envy driven. Hang with a similar age / enrty level crowd as you and do everything it takes to get promotions and bonuses timely.

It's hard to stay career focused at 20 if you're single.

Once you get integrated with the company well and show you're able, they may send you to college for job opportunities in-house. You have to be one of the best young skilled laborers to do this usually though.. Or a decent skilled minority.

Good luck.

I would keep your mouth shut at first and feel the place out.

Don't take any shite from people who have been there awhile just because they've been there awhile. Don't get involved with politics about who likes who and which supervisor is a dick sucker.

Try and learn as much as you can about every function of where you work as it will make you more valuable to the company.

Be goal oriented and try to advance your career/education because I doubt you want to do the same thing in 10 years.

If you're having a shitty day, go rub one out in the bathroom.

So you're getting paid just a shade above $8/hr? Unless there is an opportunity for a lot of advancement, I'd bail dude. 72 hours a week is brutal.

Well 11 or 12 an hour depending on what they start me at.

And yeah, from what I understand it's 12 hours a day, every day except Sunday. Holidays off though.

Those are seriously shitty hours for a shitty wage. I would seriously rethink my life choices here.

I hope that's after taxes.

Seriously, unless there's room for advancement, it's not worth it. Service industry, construction, and a lot if other industries pay better than that. In construction, if you get on the right trade, you can make $25-30+ an hour without a degree.

Work hard and listen before your talk. You can handle it if you do this. Everyone (who counts) respects hard work.

Ive been there myself a few decades ago. It can be done

That's a good company, show up bust your arse and learn, that's how you get ahead in life. If you sacrifice some time now it'll pay off in the long run.

144 hours a pay period? For $1200???? That's 8.33/hr... Tell me you at least get a raise once you complete a probationary period or something?
