Note, half my family is int he military so I don't mean people in the military in general but peole whose expect you to bow down and kiss their feet because they served.

I got, or had lol, a client that wanted a website done. Basically wanted his current site, redesigned and put on a different platform, easy enough. I quote him 1,500 dollars. There is a part of the job, that he says he MIGHT want later that i did not put in the proposal becuase he did not say he defiantly wanted it and i specifically pointed that out to him. He asks me can I lower it to $1,300 and I agree.

While we are doing the design, now the thing he might want, is now a definite, and it's a week's worth of work, it's like a big fricking deal. it's not hard, but it's not something we can do in 2-3 hours. I see now what type of client this is and now my goal is just to get out of the job, without losing money. I have rules, I dont' deal with military clients, (never ever work out) , defiantly don't deal with religious sites as they always want shite for free and this is both. I broke my rules, it's my fault, it is what it is.

To make a long story short, we end up programmed the entire site, getting it just like he wants, he asks us to move the site to his server and as soon as it' s on his server, suddenly, nothing works anymore lol. The dude literary hired someone to go in and break his own site, filed a dispute, i spent an entire saturday showing the place where i got the project that hey, the site works here on my server, he likes it, when it's on his server, it breaks lol.. that's pretty damn good timing don't you think?

The place recommends I gave back 300 of the 1500 he paid. I don't like it but I did it in the effort to get this out of my hair.

But he's not done lol. He wants the ENTIRE 1,500 BACK lol. so now i have to pay an arbitrator 291 dollars and they put a 1,500 dollar hold on my account over something he approved. so basically dude got a free site lol.

But all this really started when I would not kiss his arse. I mean i wasn't a prick to the guy but I run a business i have other things to do,b ut he wanted someone to kiss his arse becuase hes' been to Iraq 4 times and he fells i didn't show him the proper respect that is owed to him.

I'm going to laugh my arse off when the arbitrator decides i don't owe him shite

So.....assholes?

People like that would be assholes about something else if they weren't military or former military or whatever. They'd just find something else to get upset that you didn't genuflect to them over.

Sorry 'bout your shitty client. Hope it works out.

I tend to agree with you, but invoking the combat vet status is purposeful. It is intented to guilt one into doing things for others that he or she wouldn't normally do based solely on their veteran status. However, doing VA Disability as part of my legal practice, I feel that this inherent sense of entitlement and irrationality is far more common among the civilian populace.

I know my fair share of a-hole military types, but it's "definitely", not "defiantly".

One of my former best friends was in peace-time full time Army, 95-98. He sat behind a desk stateside and got paid to stay in shape. Never saw anything remotely resembling combat.

He's always been a pothead loser who could not balance his checkbook.

You can always tell when its Veterans Day or Memorial Day just by his Facebook picture. He never misses an opportunity to play the "veteran card".

We had a few guys like that at my last command. They were always posting stuff on Facebook about how stupid civilians are, self-glorifying military memes, obnoxiously calling out anybody or anything that they felt was somehow disrespecting the service.

They were also the type to wear their dress uniforms out on the town and fully expect random strangers to pick up the tab for their food and drinks. They were usually spotted wearing military pride t-shirts and black military looking Oakleys when not in uniform.

When they become veterans, I expect it becomes much worse, since they have to find other ways of letting people know about their military service, now that they can't wear uniforms.

Just so you know, these guys are a small minority who usually get ridiculed by the other guys in the division. More often than not, they suck at their job as well. It sucks for civilians though, since you can't really tell them to frick off and quit being a flaming fhaggot like other military guys can (since you would be immediately labeled a "liberal veteran-hater" and find yourself the subject of a furious "let's make them famous" Facebook post. Sorry bro, dunno what to tell you other than that they are just assholes with a little more leverage than the normal types. Deal with it and move on I guess.

I'd take down the entire site. Claim it as your work product and bill the guy nothing and walk away.

OP sounds like the type of woman that always projects all men as dirtbags just because one man cheated on her. I get frustrated when I see vets posting the macho military memes all the time as well though. However, I'm a combat vet as well and I know the same soldiers that tell great "stories" and share patriotic memes all the time were the PX hero's and the frick ups of the unit. So again, not all military men are the type to demand respect like in the OP.

I'd go so far as to say most ex-military guys aren't like that. There are/were schmucks in every unit, though--usually the ones that got on everyone's last nerves while they were in are the PITAs when they separate.

Truth. They're compensating for all the shite they didn't do.
