There's an authentic German restaurant in Greenville, SC that kicks arse.
The only reason I tried it was bc my son was visiting Greenville (he used to live there before moving to Germany) and my daughter also lives in Germany, and I thought it was going to be disgusting. I was pleasantly surprised, though. It was absolutely delicious.

We have an Austrian/German place here and it's by FAR the best food in town. It's incredible. I assume your extent of german cuisine exposure only includes Oscar Meyer and canned sauerkraut.
Ironically, Italian food was actually quite disappointing. It's much different than whatever you've been ordering at Olive Garden

I'm not going to shite on the OP like the rest, but....Europeans simply have a different acquired taste for what is good.
Probably the best answer I could give you would be lack of resources. One of the biggest knocks I have with and I think you are suggesting is that some European foods can be bland. Lack of sugar or kick. We have lots of corn and sugar in the US, which are in almost everything, making our foods/drinks very sweet.
But if you haven't been to Europe, it truly is a great experience.

I guess some European countries could have bland food, but to suggest that France has bad food is just asinine. They pretty much invented modern day cuisine.
