My daughter is married to a black man. I tell her that my only concerns in her choice of a mate were:
1) He be a Christian
2) He treat her with honor and respect
3) He be a Bama fan
Couldn't be prouder of her choice. :)
But I also prepared her for the prejudice they could expect. Her grandparents are of a different generation. They may be slow to accept him. But in the end, if everyone is respectful, he would win them over. He did.

Ive got a couple of friends who are in relationships with a girl of a different race. Both are black males and they have always told me that they get more hate from black females and black males than they do from white society.
One of them also told me that they were scared shitless to take them home and meet his family, simply because of the way they were raised.
Obviously, these are only a couple of examples and not everyone is the same I suppose.

It's very regional and cultural. The majority of people only view interracial as an issue (usually) are african american and white couples, though. Small rural towns full of white people...I'm looking at you.
I'm Russian/Hispanic. I look 100% eastern european, so I'm just another white girl American. You better believe hispanics (and i'm in texas) never guess in a million years I'm one of them and first reaction is always "the white girl".

Good rule of thumb is to never assume you know someone's background just off their looks. Especially as this country and the world shrinks and becomes more blended.

My youngest daughter is white as white can be and she speaks spanish very well already due to her day sitter speaking it almost exclusively since birth. One day she walked up to her sitter's new assistant and said, 'hola, coma te va?!" My sitter said her girl looked at her and said, "the little white girls speaks spanish?!"

i was thinking about this at the gym this morning and i came to the conclusion that i'm pretty sure 90% of society is a-ok with interracial marriage.
i think your holdouts are old white people and black people having issues with blacks marrying whites.
i posted a thread a few years back about "generational racism" and it was a good topic. long story short, my wife's cousin was dating a new guy and they said that my wife's uncle wasn't ecstatic about it. we asked why and they said "well, would you want one of your sons dating a black girl."
my wife lost her shite which tee'd off the closest thing i've ever had to an argument with my in-laws. my in-laws are great people who have a lot of relationships with hispanics and blacks in West Texas. it's just still a foreign concept that people who lived through civil rights aren't ready for.
not saying all racial issues will ever go away but i think when the baby boomers die off, we'll see a lot of improvement with the "old ways."

This is going away and I see more and more examples of mixed relationships. Over half the kids born these days indentify as a race other than white in this country. It won't be too long for the whole country is mocha and I won't have to listen to any more racist bullshite from anyone.

If the relationship is legit, I have no problem with it. I have a particular distaste for white people that try to act black, however. And I don't mind showing them.

Is it weird that I'd have a problem with my daughter dating a middle eastern man? But it's not really a race thing more of a culture and religion thing. I'm sure most Muslims are good people but I just couldn't get over it.

My mom is from Columbus,OH and is probably around the same age of this guy and she thinks the same way (its ironic because there are plenty of beige kids running around Ohio; I've seen it with my own eyes.
) I just call it the "60's" mentality. They grew up thinking that blacks and whites can live NEAR each other, but should NEVER marry. I remember that old Muhammad Ali interview about how we shouldn't really mix the races and all the older black people agreeing with them.
Thankfully I do believe this way of thinking is slowly dying out, and this generation is the most accepting of interracial relationships. Honestly the only groups of millennials who are against interracial relationships are indignant black girls who feel like white girls are "stealing all of our good black men" (there are plenty of us still out there, you just feel like you're too good for them-hence why we date white girls) and self conscious white guys who are jealous because they just don't "measure" up.
If we just legalized gay marriage, interracial relationships should be a thing of the past.

Aryan theory is that mixing races weakens both. Not saying that I agree with this, but thats where it comes from. Most people think this is from Hitlers Germany, but Harvard taught this as basic knowledge as late as the woodrow wilson era and folks like Teddy Roosevelt and most American whites believed it until probably last 15 years? What I base that off of is popular culture like TV shows and commercials. Mixed couple is ocmmon in TV commercials now. Used to be scandalous.
My personal belief is that kids of a mixed marriage catch more shite than other kids. Not fair, but thats likely true. Until people stop believing the Aryan shite above, mixed kids will pay the price.
My little grandsons really dont see race. I mean literally dont see it. I think thats good as long as we culturally accept each other and can make a family.
