While I know some folks are just fat, some do have medical issues.

If we truly desire a leaner (not bone shinny thin mind you) we need to attack it from the front end via food producers, media, and a society that promotes cocoon mentality and a couch potato lifestyle.

PS, as you get older your metabolism slows to snail sped and eating about 1/3 of what you once did puts weight on you,

You pucked the right week to ask thus question. I and the family are at Disney.

Virtually every bus trip has at least one 'disabled' rider. I saw one guy in a wheelchair who had a lower leg injury and a woman on a mobility scooter who had some type of MS type disease. The rest have simply been too fat to walk. I'm talking 400 pound, gotta be strapped to the scooter fat. If your disability is an inability to put down the fork, you aren't disabled.

In a related note, the UK has just decided to withhold non-urgent surgery from fatties until they lose weight. Even the socialized medicine crowd has had a gut full of dealing with the full gut crowd.

I remember when I was younger, and my parents were aging. Both had rheumatoid arthritis very bad (as I do now), and had lots of trouble walking any real distances without a cane.
It took years for them to get a handicap sticker. It seems like today, they just give them out of you ask for one.

It also burns me up to see young people using someones handicap sticker to part when they have no discernible need for the space.

I agree with what you are saying, but sometimes it really is hard to know. If any of you saw me out you would just see a lazy fat dude. I was always a big guy but after the last surgery and quitting work I've probably gained 40lbs. You wouldn't know that I have had two back surgeries and have another bad disc that's inoperable and thus had to quit work and go on disability 7 years ago.

Now having said that, I have never asked my doc for a handicap tag or anything. I figure there are folks worse off than I am who need it more. I do what I can, after being on my feet for about 10 minutes my back starts hurting but I usually try to work through it if I need to get something done if possible. I can't spend more than 30-45 minutes tops in a store, but I just do my best.

Now having said all that if someone is really just fat and lazy and nothing else wrong with them I'm with you 100%.

This isn't news. They do the same thing here, except that here, it's because losing weight will speed recovery and reduce surgical complications.

In the UK, it's because the NHS has run against a budget wall.

I'm in a waiting room to take my 9th grader to doctor

A few of the benches in the waiting room are "double wide"

I took a picture and will post it as soon as I am at a regular computer

there are a lot of disabilities that I don't agree with. If you drive a pickup that you have to climb into, you shouldn't have a handicap sticker/tag. I saw a guy that had a F250 with a 4-6" lift on it parking in a handicap spot with a full on handicap tag on it, I couldn't get in that truck but this guy needs to park closer than I do.

I am running for Governor of Tennessee on a platform of releasing big cats into our towns to cull our herds of our weakest members.

At the park where I walk my dogs there is a middle-age woman who parks in a handicap spot and then walks her dog. After the walk she puts the dog back in her car and goes for a two-mile run, which is twice around the park. Who needs to know about this lowlife? The police?

I have a major problem with this. A friend of mine has a brother who is the complete opposite of him. When they were younger, he would just sit around and play video games or chat on the computer all day, and now he is about 5'10" and weighs around 350 lbs. He has a handicap tag because of knee issues that are directly related to his weight. It drives my friend crazy, and it has put such a strain on their relationship that they barely talk. The guy is in his late 20's and just recently moved out of his parents' house due to force. I will give him credit for the job he has, but it is one where he is allowed to sit in place for hours upon hours making his issue even worse.

It all stemmed from the fact that he never got out to do things as a kid/teenager, and by that point it was too late. He is just a slob who wants people to feel sorry for him at 28.

Issues are not always obvious

Knew a person in their 20's who's lower body was crushed when they were young and was not supposed to walk again. Roughly 3 years later they proved the doctors wrong. However, to this day they have nerve damage of roughly 25% to 35% down each leg. While they may look fine parking in the handicapped space on a good day I can assure you I have also seen the days when they can not get out of bed.

Bigger issue is who complains and who does not. A kid raised on junk food and video games feels entitled to be fat and complains all the time how life is against them. The person described in the paragraph above never complains in public and few who know them know the history and the recurrent pain. Keep this in mind when rushing to judge, as not all folks with handicapped parking are equal.

Like life, most times it is about individual stories over blanket statements.

Replace weakest with fattest, and I'm on board.

Ain't that the truth. Coupled with lack of sleep and stress of work, those pounds that used to fall off now hang on stubbornly.
