No worse than, and maybe even preferable to 'taking the edge off' with alcohol. Responsibly of course.

Alcohol is worse for the body.

And I challenge the notion that it's just for 'taking the edge off', while that can and is true, it's also a way to expand consciousness, which has more rewarding and valuable returns than just taking the edge off.

You are proof positive that weed has harmful, long-term side effects.

I see no problem with it with just a couple of stipulations. One, don't take food off the table to buy it. Two, don't do it in the presence of a minor. Three, don't be stingy if you have a friend, sibling or neighbor that tokes.

I think this type of dualistic thinking runs deep through everything, to the point that it's an intellectual epidemic.

Correct. On an individual level, the person may just be exaggerating or oversimplifying. It's a reaction. It's all very Hegelian. An example: someone with legit gripes against corporatism, artificial foods, GMO's, may take it to the extreme and say "There's literally no real food at Wal-Mart." Which is, of course, absurd and only obfuscates their real point.

At some point, I would love to hear how you implement a stateless public ownership of the means of production, without, you know, authoritarian communism. I'll read all the Chomsky you want. But not in this thread

Smoked all the time in college, it was great because I wasn't getting hammered when I did smoke.

I quit smoking regularly and now if I do it I get the scaries or some shite. I think about nothing but bad stuff. The anxiety that it used to cure is now coming on about 10 times worse.

Think it's really hard for people who're so hard wired into their everyday consciousness to break from it -- makes for a lot of bad feelings caused by the reflective powers of the substance.

I'm left wondering why it's just once a week. Is he hurting for montag?

Ditto. The shite's self-limiting to some of us.

I'm the same way. I think I've got too many real life issues to think about now. If I smoke nowadays, instead of getting the munchies and laughing a lot, I start over-thinking deadlines at work and stuff like that. It cranks the stress up to a whole other level.

I don't understand how cancer patients get any relief from smoking weed. It may relieve physical pain but it would send negative emotions through the roof.

If it's legal I'm cool with it...If not legal don't like it. All for following the law.

Surely you are jesting. You can't seriously derive morality from the law.
