What's with drivers having brain lapses at stop signs?

Almost daily, I'm stopped at a stop sign, number two in line. It's clear to go but driver in front is hesitating, they see approaching vehicle way off in distance, there's enough time to safely go for at least three vehicles in line. More than once I have become so agitated at this stupidity that I have pulled around the car at front and go on my way...safely. Do I break the law when I do this? I don't think so.

I've done that, too. I don't know what else to do. Breaking the law? Probably, but it's better than pushing the car in front of me out of the way.

You are breaking the law when you do that I think. But I've wanted to do it too. However, the older I get, the more cautious I get driving, so my mind is changing on the issue daily.

I will give you the two I see all the time that drive me nuts.

One is when another car and I are approaching a 4 way stop at the same time but they clearly get there first. Then they try to wave me through. You got there first, just go.

The other is when we are approaching the 4 way stop and they stop 2 car lengths from the intersection so they "get there first". Just pull up to the intersection and whoever is first will go.

Would you do it in front of a cop?

That pretty much answers your question. You know it's illegal

I say that if the car in front won't go when clear, then it's logical for me to assume the said car is stalled or the person is incapacitated in some way. Therefore I have a right to go around the sitting car without breaking law. Like I'm supposed to stay behind a non moving vehicle until it's towed away an hour later or I'm directed around by a police officer? There's letter of law and spirit of law.

Let's say you get in a wreck when you go around. Who do you think they will determine is at fault?

Guilty of this when I first started driving.

Now I just stare them down until they go. They get the picture.

I'm owning the thought that the driver in front of me does not dictate my decisions. I've made left turns in the left turn lane as the #2 car about a dozen times in Atlanta when it's obvious #1 is texting or putting on mascara.
