What's good in your life today?

In preparation for the inevitable New Year's resolutions that quickly die on the vine, I've decided to start mine early to get into the habit before 1/1.

1) Working out again: After a couple of injuries I've found it hard to get back to the gym. It's all due to looking for reasons not to go instead of looking for reasons to go and just, well, go. Like this morning, I planned to get the kids off to school and head to the gym. The dogs changed my plans when the drug the ham I was about to portion for the day off the counter. The class dish exploded into what I believe to be 3,212,432 pieces and of course the ham was ruined. As I was cleaning up, I told myself that that was the reason I was looking for to not go. Fast forward to later today, I realized that I can't let that happen any longer.

2) What's good in my life today: The other new habit I want is to take just a few minutes to recognize good things in life daily instead of just seeing all the bad things and of course there are plenty of bad things. So, here's goes day 1. Join me if you want.

Good:

It's 68 degrees here with beautiful blue skies. I'm wearing shorts from my planned work out because I'm done working for the rest of the year for the most part. In my line of work, no one wants to see your happy arse until after the first of the year.

My family is doing pretty darn well and I feel more connected to my wife than I have in months. My job brought some good news for future business opportunities which could lead to great things for 2016 and beyond. It's all up to me now.

We decided to finally splurge and go to Utah to ski as a family. We received a free week at Deer Valley from a friend that couldn't use it and didn't want it wasted. It will cost me some time and a couple of bottles of good wine to tell them thank you.

Finally found a contractor I like to remodel our master bath. I took it down to the studs 2 months ago but have struggled to find a contractor that I didn't feel like was stealing from me.

I get to see my mom at my son's basketball game today. That's always good.

TLDR, I know.

Hope there's lots of good you can see in your life even if you have to push the bad out of the way to see it clearly.

I stopped drinking in March. Not a drop since and I feel much better physically. I seem to be much calmer also.

I think I could give up drinking altogether myself. I just don't enjoy it as much.

I did quit drinking lite beer. I will only drink good beer now and obviously drink less of them because they are more filling. When fishing, I swear I can drink a case of Bud Lite and never get a buzz. It's weird and scary.

You have a choice in the matter, I don't. If I start there is no telling when I'm going to stop and to offset the drunkenness I will use another substance, I know this as o have proven it time after time.
