I am not talking about folks in China imitating american hipsters but real folks in China reaching back to their past for their own version of Hipster. Would they be some post modern alteration of the Mao type Red China or would they kick back to the dynasty era and have some silver balls woven into a stylized Fu Manchu?

Thoughts or images?

I see a resurgence of the opium den with the added twist of super-caffeinated coffee, served to create a sort of speedball effect. I see the rise of Chinese beatniks who hang out at these places, getting high for days on end, plucking away on pipas and ruans, and quoting lines from the old Kung Fu TV series.
