What is your opinion of this current vein of modern architecture?

And how would you feel about a building like this being built on your campus?

This building backs down a hillside, so it is a creative use of topography. At first I hated the design, but I find it rather striking the more I've had time to get used to it. Here's an entire photoset and plans from ArchDaily:

Personally, Frank Lloyd Wright is probably as modern as my tastes get. I love when architects take from the land (for instance I love the limestone and reclaimed barn wood they've used on the interior of UK's new practice facility) and mimic older structures. I've never been crazy of a lot of steel, iron, and the "cold" look.

I like it a lot, actually. Y'all have a very nice campus (got to visit for a game in 2013)

That building fits right in for y'all.

Well, the topography @ TAMU is a little less variant than in Fayettechill, so it probably would look weird

I'm fine with Modern buildings being built on campus as long as they kinda go with the flow of the rest of the campus and not look compleatly out of place.

We're about to build a new STEM building which will be probably the most modern looking building on campus (we don't have really have any modern looking buildings) and it looks like it will mostly fit in so I'm fine with it

I've typically been the same way, but this building in particular I really like. I hate most of the other modernist stuff on our campus, but this one is just a very graceful use of space and topography.

I'm told this one, and another below, are planned to mimic the top-stained limestone bluffs in the region, and maybe that's why I like them more. Supposed to evoke this:

This building was supposed to evoke bluffs/cliffs. What looks like a terraced hillside, actually has two large auditoriums and creates a "bluff" to hang out on top of, with a three planted roofs masquerading as land.

That's a really big building, especially in the context of the existing campus at Ole Miss.

I love modern architecture. Especially the ultra modern homes

Gotcha.

That makes sense. I think I'd like to see more texture on the actual building facade though. I like the garden rooftops and the placement, but the buildings themselves still feel so "70s" to me.

I love what we've done downtown here where they've renovating a lot of old Whiskey Row and maintained the actual iron building fronts. And converting old Catholic churches to sustainable buildings.

Do you like the corrugated storage locker that is the Blessings clubhouse?

Actually we have some highly regarded modern architects in Fayetteville. Ok, we have exactly one. I hate most of his buildings, though.

He designed the above-referenced golf clubhouse, in a similar manner, with similar intent as the building in the OP.

My first impression, from the photos, is the same as your initial reaction. I don't like it.

I've never cared for functional design, especially for a building's exterior. A large community building should command its position in the landscape.

That building is cold and sterile looking. It's as characterless as the multi-story parking garage across the street. The colors are awful.

Maybe it would grow on me if I was around it a lot.

It's been all down hill since the Greeks and Romans. LSU's original architecture was good -Italian Renaissance style. Newer stuff stinks.

Why are libraries on campus almost always ugly eye sores on an otherwise beautiful campus? Seen this multiple times.

I like buildings of almost any style, as long as they are well-executed and thoughtful. That building is a thoughtfully-designed version of modernism, IMO.

The JB Hunt building on campus is NOT a thoughtfully-designed building and it is an eyesore.

I wish they'd keep building more stuff like this, though:

For a small state, Arkansas has some pretty diverse good architecture. Polshek is a NYC starchitect, and the Clinton Presidential Center is actually a great building, IMO.

He's no Moshe Safdie, though.

Nor is he E.Fay Jones:

Wow. Is that replacing the old "Death and Dying" lecture hall behind the Greek Theater? And when are they starting/completing work on it?
