When they toured in 07 I was just a college freshman and I didn't know much about the electronic scene. I'd pay just about whatever to see them live now.

Chillstep is a subgenre that I'm not familiar with. I'm not much into dubstep or trap, but it sounds different from those two, as they're not very chillful.

I would suggest typing in "bassnectar chillstep" in the youtube search bar and followimg that rabbit trail. That's how I familiarized myself with the subgenre.
Although, like cas4t, I wish I'd "discovered" the scene sooner
I liken it to the 21st century version of smooth jazz (a genre I also enjoy).
