And municipalities? Crazy to think that in 2015 this is still pretty widespread in a lot of states. I grew up on the MS coast and was shocked to even hear that there were these areas in our state.

Sylacauga, AL. just recently voted to allow alcohol sales on Sunday (albeit after 1 pm.). Good on them.

I live in a dry county on Sundays. It's pretty stupid, and a loss of sales tax revenue because all the neighboring counties have Sunday sales. What's even dumber is you can buy alcohol in restaurants, but not in stores. That never made any sense to me.

It's funny to see a dry county try to vote to go wet. The Baptist have huge get out the vote campaigns on election day.

Grew up in one. We used to go sit at Dutch's service station right on the county line and watch all the Baptists, who kept voting the county dry btw, pull into Ray's beer joint and come out with a case or two of beer

About the same as I think of states who still criminalize marijuana use.

Pointless.

I think the counties should have a vote every ten years or so and if they vote to keep it, then that is what their residents want. I have no problem with it. I have a problem when they try to keep it from even being voted on

If the people of that county don't want alcohol sales, and vote on it, what's the issue?

Wouldn't live in one if you paid me to. I don't have a problem with it though. It shows me where the backwards fricksticks live.

It's kind of like the Rebel flag. Don't ban the shite. I want to know the people that I don't want to associate with.

The problem is, lots of counties never vote on it. There are battles just to get a vote

The dry county on Sunday thing in Alabama makes less sense to me than a total dry county.

You could make $200,000,000,000 dollars selling inflated priced Bud Light on Talladega blvd. due to this rule.

I know in Lubbock you used to not be able to buy liquor in town which is crazy for such a big University town. The word around that town was that the old boy network that ran the town owned a lot of the liquor stores on the skirts of town. They used a sort of bootleggers and baptist technique to monopolize that business. Old ways die hard.

They're ridiculous.

There's several dry counties in the state of Kentucky and a lot stem from either religious influence or from the Carrolton bus crash here several years ago.

They're not smart enough to figure out that they're putting more drunk drivers on the road by having a dry county next to a wet one where you can just drive across county lines for it.

I've never understood the scriptural basis for no booze sold on Sundays. Alcohol is either sinful or it isn't.

Yes, Christians believe Sunday is a day of rest, but no one is advocating that all businesses must close on Sunday, just no booze can be sold.

I've grown up in the church and never seen a true scriptural reason for the no booze on Sunday stuff.

I live in a dry county and love it. Far less dui accidents, less underage drinking, no cans and bottles on the side of the road, no bums in service station parking lots etc.

There are plenty of reasons to stay dry other than religion, drinkers are the most irresponsible people on the planet, as a unreformed one I would know.

I think crack and heroin addicts beat out the drunk drivers.

Edit: Forgot about Politicians, my bad

I bet you would have fewer DUI accidents if it turned into a wet county.

Having lived in one from childhood until 2012 basically, it's not that different from wet counties in Mississippi except you have to drive 15 minutes to get booze.

False. I drink, sometimes heavily, and I've never once gotten behind the wheel of a car intoxicated or done anything else that could be considered irresponsible while drunk.

A portion of the population can't handle their alcohol, to generalize and say that drinkers, in general, are irresponsible is absurd.

I'd love to see per capita dui accident statistics. I wonder if they exist comparing wet to dry counties, and even in a per state basis.
