Depends on how long we've been dating and what we are doing that night.

Your sister lied to you and is laughing at you.

Maybe this her idea of birth control for her brother so he doesn't reproduce? Could be very responsible of her. I'm already on her side if he believes what she said.

Sounds like you need some new ideas for dates. Nobody said you have to them to a $200 dinner and buy expensive stuff every date. Find some cheaper options.

Nope. I'm a fully fledged adult in a decent paying entry level job in a very expensive part of a city. I'm already budgeted past 2/3rds of monthly income from rent, student loans, bills, and a few other expenses. That leaves only so much a week for food/groceries/going out/entertainment.

But anyway, my sister always told me that you shouldn't pay for a chick after the first date.

Your sister is cockblocking you.

But real talk, if you're a full fledged adult and the girl you're dating can't understand the circumstance where you're not financially able to pay for an expensive arse date everytime then she's not worth the cost to begin with. At the same time, if you can't afford to take her out somewhere expensive and you're the one asking for the date then you need to get creative.

I'm married, so I pay for everything every time

When I was dating my wife though, I paid for the first date. After that it just depended. If we went to a movie, I would get the tickets, she would get the snacks. If we went to dinner she would offer every couple times.

Pay for everything at first. Later on in the relationship you can get away with splitting it or you each paying for yourselves every once in a while.

I pay almost every single time. Even if it's not a girl I'm dating. But when it's my S/O, she'll occasionally pay for it. She said she appreciates me always offering to pay, but she wants to treat me sometimes. It's just being courteous. And dating a woman who's independent.

Don't ask a girl to an expensive dinner for a first date. It's oddly formal these days and not easy on the wallet. Ask if she wants to get a drink. Make the time either after dinner (8pm on) or before dinner (happy hour) with a cheap place nearby that you can go to eat if it's going well.

Another option is to invite her over and cook for her.

A good woman will insist on paying half. She works just like you do.

Is this a date with the opposite sex?

If not split? I just don't know how that all works out TBH.

If so pay.

I always pay for everything unless she's insistent on paying.
