He is your typical snobby successful musician. He played in Ireland and my parents hung out with him and his daughter after the show at a pub and he was just very very uppity. I don't think he's a bad person by any means, and he makes some DAMN good music.

Fame affects different people in different ways. Morrison is a true artist and musical genius. He has created some of the greatest music of the last 50 years and has been a major musical success for nearly 50 years. He is more mad genius though as a guy that would never have lasted in a band for instance, he is highly perfectionistic and wants music made exactly the way he wants it. He also is truly unique in sound and style and never "sold out". I mean the guy stole the show and is considered the best performer of "The Last Waltz" even though he doesn't have a particularly great stage presence and he certainly isn't good looking.
Sometimes what makes an artist great also makes them a complete jerk. He's notorious for being late or canceling concerts and just doing what he wants in general. That passion for selfishness and narcissism is how he made that great music but it also makes him a guy you would likely meet and go "How in the holy hell did that arse make music like "Into the Mystic", "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Caravan" or my personal favorite "Cleaning Windows"? Few musicians can speak to your soul the way his music does with that combination of brilliant lyrics, unique and haunting melody, and that voice.
My guess is he is a pretty introverted guy from what I have read who knows he is brilliant and has stunted social skills. Just listen to the music and don't try to figure him out, there are plenty of musicians that are a lot worse than him, it's just his music speaks so much to the "everyman" that it makes it hard to understand he isn't just a good dude you want to hang out with.
