Hitler did the same thing on his way to a new Germany.
When you forget history, someone will try to get you to groupthink. At they point freedom has already been lost.

It's the same thing that the Taliban did in Afghanistan and that ISIS is doing in Syria and Iraq.

I think that since I don't live in New Orleans, it ain't none of my business. I guess the only thing that I don't understand is how the Landrieu's keep getting elected.

And when they come for Stone Mountain?

Win the war if you want to have it your way?

It would cost a hell of a lot more to remove the mural on Stone Mountain. It won't be touched. It's a historical landmark of significance.

Of all the challenges we face as a Nation, this has to be right near the top...
for the idiots in charge.

So easy, the Taliban can do it.
I'm sorry, but I'm not aware of that thar Taliban operatin' in our country. We ain't a lawless desert. No one is blowin' up a place of historical and artistic significance. Stone Mountain is the world's largest exposed granite monolith with the largest relief in the world and no one is blowin' that up. Most of our African Americans have said that they don't want that to happen. Guess ours black folk are just a little more understanding, and educated, than those in NOLA.

You don't get it at all. I feel sorry for you.

Good move. Confederacy was anti United States and anti-black. No need to celebrate a misguided, losing effort. High time to move on and celebrate more non-divisive aspects of this part of the country.

Why not, as has been suggested, placing them in context by placing a statute of Ulysses Grant beside Lee Circle and renaming it General's Circle, etc.?
Erasing history is a step toward forgetting it, which is a step toward repeating it.

I'm just happy all the problems of the world will be solved once those evil monuments are gone.

I say we blast the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial into dust. Rename the Capitol, burn Mt Vernon, replace the portraits on the $1 and $2 bills, purge any and all references to those deplorable slave owners.
It will solve all our problems. I'll get Trump to pay for it.

I'd be fine with either. Same difference. Folks would bitch about that solution being too "PC," too

By the same token, celebrating foibles is a step towards excusing them, which is also a step towards repeating them. Kinda works both ways, tbh.
