SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Ride-hailing app Uber, under the microscope due to a handful of driver assaults on passengers in some cities, pledged in a blog post on Tuesday to sign up 1 million female drivers around the world by 2020.

Utterly terrifying. Looks like I'll be taking Lyft

It will be here soon enough. Or I'll just go back to yellow cab. I'm not going to play with my life like this

It was already here, i use to use it. They got it booted by passing a bunch of regulations it didnt want to deal with.

Uber is "curbing" the market and making sidewalks dangerous, forcing common pedestrians to buy a ride.

Those regulations include requiring drivers to have background checks

Yeah, I'm perfectly fine with that one

In my experience the drivers for Lyft are a lot better. I am guessing they pay them more.

Sounds like a very liberal response to a business.

The only problems I have with Uber drivers is them not knowing the best way to get somewhere. Even then they typically listen to you. I've never had an issue with safety or anything

They do more stringent background checks for Uber in Nashville than they do for yellow cab, apparently

know a guy who drives for them and said it was pretty rigorous

or maybe that was Lyft

I don't have any safety issues because I am a male. I can definitely understand women being frightened. I think I have had maybe 2-5 female uber drivers out of a few hundred.

Lyft just has drivers that actually know where they are going which is really nice when I am drunk and don't feel like giving step by step directions.

Cab drivers are far and away the worst as far as directions in Houston, most of the Uber people have a good idea they just don't know the ways around traffic if that's an issue.

The cab drivers just straight up don't know half the time. I usually use them coming home because I'm drunk and lazy and they're on the street and there's bad surge pricing with Uber at 2 am

Generally with surge pricing if you can wait 10 minutes it goes away. Not all of the time though.

The surge pricing is just there to get them in the area.
