Cop shoots unarmed man running away. Guess the races involved.

I am no cop hater by any stretch, but people are right when they say that had this not been caught on video, the officer would probably have not been so quick to be punished, or even punished at all. Knowing that, there needs to be a systematic review of police training across the country. We need to know at what point officers are being told to shoot first and ask questions later. Anyone remember COPS? Did the officers shoot quickly when the guys ran away on that show?

I know the best defense is to 1) not break the law and 2) not run away if you do, but I also know that sometimes events can conspire to paint an immediate picture that does not look good to an officer, and I don't like the notion that he is trained to shoot quickly if that ever happens to me.

Pretty sure the cop is getting tried for murder. What else, exactly, do you want to see happen? Sensitivity training?

Yeah, I lived in Charleston, there's no reason to have white cops policing most of North Charleston. It makes zero sense.

With that said, races aside, police being trained/equipped/acting like soldiers in a war zone is the biggest issue. Hardly anyone feels safer (white or black) when they are around.

I said in my OP: we need a systematic review of police training.

There is nothing in police training that tells them to follow what this cop did in the video.

Sadly it's bigger than that. For as much as we've seen from a police perspective, we also have 12-13 year old kids bringing loaded guns into schools with some consistency and I've seen on more than one occasion a kid buck up to a police officer with the "you touch me I'll have your job" mentality.

There's a complete lack of respect for any kind of authority and for human life on a lot of levels. Not saying some of these cops are in the right, but it's a situation that's been building on both sides of the fence.

Why? Is police violence on the rise nation wide? Are police shootings up nation wide? Are cops breaking more laws today than in the past? Are they more corrupt?

lol @ you if you think cops are trained to act like the criminal in that video did.

I don't buy this for .5 seconds.

They're trying really hard to get civil unrest fired up.

It's the most perfect camera footage I've ever seen for something like this. Bit sketchy.

It is getting out of hand.

Police Reach Settlement in Shooting
In this story, the policeman was found to have broken the law when he killed the driver. The grand jury indicted him with a misdemeanor.

He has been fired by the PD after being charged with murder. Also, the PD will get body cams with the quickness.

It's a shame that it takes something this tragic to get this technology into PDs. That damn lunatic would have taken a different approach if he knew his actions were being recorded.

I'd like to see him convicted.

Very sad case all around. When I watch the video I can't even enjoy how silly the guy runs.
