We're just white. My ancestors ranched cattle and killed Indians, and probably fricked a few of them, too. We're cowboys and chicken farmers and German barn-builders and dairy farmers. I eat at Village Inn and Braums and none of you southerners even know WTF those things are.

Well my mom babysat the Braum's kids 40 years ago, and it's an Oklahoma thing. A few have popped up outside the region, but they keep everything within a certain distance of their dairy in Tuttle for freshness. I'm sure Braum's would extend in to the south, but they have never really wanted to expand the operation by building new dairies outside of Oklahoma.

In NWA, every last person I know hikes the Goat Trail on the Buffalo, Yellow Rock trail at Devil's Den, and kayaks and canoes. Most of those people also cycle to some degree because it's so damned easy to do around here. Others get into mountain biking, again, because you can mountain bike 10 minutes from your house. We have enough mountain bike amenities that we hosted the IMBA World Summit last year.

Here's a good video demonstrating our "Colorado envy" and "inauthentic" mountain biking community:

I have no idea what's really going on in this thread or what it's about exactly but Braum's is great

Booger flicking thread about culture. Every small to mid sized mountain town is trying to out hipster the other.

Braums ends in NWA to the east, and Athens, Texas to the south.

It's a regional thing, which is a good thing because of the freshness.

I have no idea how they keep their bags of David sunflower seeds at $1.29 for the past decade.

What sets NWA apart and will into the future is the fact that many of those trails and amenities are inside city limits, and can be reached via the Greenway and city bike path systems. You don't have to drive anywhere to get downhill track. It's in your backyard. That is really unique for a city/metro with jobs, to also have stuff like that in town.

And they are in Dallas. Grew up half a mile away from one. It's been there 30 years at least. Last time I visit my parents I got me some ice cream as well. It's also right next to a Grandy's. How the frick is Grandy's still open? Who eats at Grandy's anymore?

That video from Bikemag does a great job showing the crazy extent of trail development here. We were just talking about this today. Most people aren't aware that not only are Slaughter Pen, Coler, Blowing Springs, and Back40 within 10 minute drive of each other, but you can also easily pedal on trail between each of them. It's pretty awesome.

Speaking of: I've got to ride this weekend. Spent last Saturday, which was prime, at a wrestling tournament all day for my youngest and then rained all day Sunday. Looks like this weekend will be good, though. May have to ride Back40.

Edit: I actually think I'm going to do the Buffalo Headwaters Hoot and Holler downhill on Sunday.
