Hello, I will be traveling to Boston soon and am looking for suggestions from those of you that have been there before. I am looking for suggestions regarding historical things, museums, drinking establishments, brothels, etcetera and so forth.

I already plan on street fighting and abusing copious amounts of illicit drugs. I do not plan to marry a same sex partner.

Thanks in advance to all that choose to reply.

join the state police, become a double agent, get involved with the chinese, check out some cool theaters and find a chill bar with some old friends.

i've only been there once and it was for only one night but i hated it, drab, dreary, unfriendly, etc. (i may should add it was a work trip but i went to plenty of other places and came away with positive vibes.)

i did eat some good chowder but i can't remember the name of the place.

Walk around a lot.

Do you know where in town you'll be? It's actually a pretty small place for a big city, but your base of operations might make a difference in what people suggest.

I'm pretty sure there's a current resident on the board -- pay attention to him.

Don't drive in Boston. Just don't.

When I lived there, I lived in Back Bay, so I'll suggest Back Bay things - get a drink at the Copley Plaza bar, see the Library, the Old South Church, the Union Oyster House, Newbury Street if you've got a shopper with you. It's about a half hour walk from Copley Squayah to Fenway Pahk, and if the weather is nice, most of that walk will be pretty pleasant.

Walk through the Public Garden, the Common, down by the rivah (the banks of the river Charles), walk down the Comm Ave pedestrian mall, walk across the Hahvahd Bridge and check out the Smoot markings, and if you do that in the afternoon with the sun shining, stop and take a picture of the downtown skyline, with boats and stuff in the foreground.

I liked the Gardner Museum, but really, there's history all over the place.

I think the Combat Zone is shut down now, and my dancer friend would be pretty old by now anyway. If it's a warm day, go downtown and see if you can smell the molasses.

Don't try to do everything everybody suggests, even if they're good suggestions. There's just too much good stuff to do. Do what you can and enjoy the hell out of it.

Walk a lot. Don't drive.

Red Sox

Walk around old Italy and just find a restaurant. There's only 20,000,000 of them.

Sam Adams tour is decent, but the bar they allow you to ride a Trolly to afterwards is the epitome of a real "cheers" type place. Awesome people, great story.. You'll get fricked up.

I'll get some names of places when I get home.

When my dad was in the Navy, he and some other officer candidates took down the flag at Harvard's Baker Library and ran up a flag featuring a naked chick.

So, like, if you got nothing else to do ….

The Boston Tea Party re inactments will shoot fake cannons and trigger your PTSD along the paul revere freedom trail.

The main church they attended back in the day was interesting as well. Rich folk had a closable booth where they could see the pastor, but no outside peasants could look in. I dropped a lortab in the Revere family one and almost didn't find it. Almost..

Park Plaza. There is not a chance I will be driving and plan on walking and using the subway.

I will have ~5 days to frick shite up. My days will be my free time to do whatever I want while my awesome lady friend is at her conference thingy. Any suggestions for the evening? Maybe a few romantic type places?

We have tickets to a Sox game on Tuesday...they are really good tickets and I'm excited about them even if it will be raining. I've heard mostly positive things about Boston. Thanks for taking your time to type all of that.

I almost had tears in my eyes reading this because I know that feel. I would appreciate if you posted the names of places that you were talking about.

Thanks to everyone else who chimed in.

Doyle's Bar- Jamaica Plains

This is the Bar you trolley to after the Sam Adams tour. Odds are you'll see Jim Koch and all the other dudes on TV.

The local blue collar drunks at the bar will tell you your horoscope, give you the BEST Boston history run downs and gave me 6 dirty Sam Adams beer glasses wrapped in today's paper. The old widower barkeep can give you a boston sports lesson like you've never heard, with all the Mob influence and juicy details of love affairs from the 70s when he was viril.. Good times here.

Good Pizza place near Bunker Hill

Nice informal pizza joint to start / finish the Freedom Trail with.

If you still have a valid Military ID, parking is free at the Naval and Coast guard ports that are extremely close to all the nice walkabout places.

I was drunk alot, so can't remember any other places. I can tell you that Boston hobos sing only the freshest pop music, and don't raise hell if somebody gives you a shitty scoop of gelato, because he might be a star forward for the Bruins and there for a guest public visit H.H. you dumb drunk frick.

Boston may be my favorite city I've ever been to. Freedom trail is cool especially if you have a guide. Neptune has the best lobster roll I've ever had. Santarpios has some amazing pizza. Check out Harvard and MIT. It's a pretty safe city with a lot of history

ETA: be prepared to see about 273842 dunkin donuts
You can also check out the Sam Adams brewery and get some free beer

Great location.

Any places I could name are probably gone or changed beyond recognition now (I lived there in the early '70s. Damn time flies). When I was there I liked the No Name restaurant and Jake Wirth's; you might try to see what current opinions are if they still exist. For romantic evenings? You're right on the Garden and Common, and there are probably still more little deli's and sub shops and pizza joints (some astoundingly good) and small restaurants down Tremont and Park streets than you can shake a stick at. You're also right next to Chinatown. Also, get across the river and wander Harvard Square one evening.

Boston is a great city. Go to a Sox game. Walk around Cambridge near Harvard. Go to the Harpoon brewery. Bars/Restaurants all along the south Boston water front are fun. Bars all over southie are great.

Ive done both and had a better time at the Harpoon brewery over the Sam Adams one. Plus you can walk down the street from Harpoon and get some sweet sea food right there. I don't have that many names. My sister lives there if you want I can ask for specifics. Sucks about the lady friend. I know a pretty slutty girl that takes it in the arse who lives in Summerville.
