Same. If you don't kiss Phil Bryant's snakeskin boots or pomade can here in Mississippi, you must support Obama. When I talk to my older brother, who lives in northern Virginia, and likes to send Media Matters e-mails out to the family, I'm the love child of Rick Santorum and Sarah Palin.

I was at a party in Oxford for the A&M game and someone asked me who I supported for Mississippi AG. When I responded with Jim Hood, you could almost hear the needle slide across the record and the music come to a halt. I asked that person what they knew about Mike Hurst, and they just mumbled about him having worked at the US Attorney's office, ending with, "he's Phil's man, and that's enough for me." (I generally don't talk politics in social settings, but it was unavoidable.)

Yes, higher premiums are Obamacare's fault.

1). By taking away pre-existing conditions and taking away lifetime maximums, it drastically increased the liability an insurance company has on the books.

2). By limiting "non healthcare expenditures" to a certain percentage of insurance company revenue, it's a de facto increase in need for revenue.

That's just for starters. There's a dozen other ways Obamacare drove up costs and the resulting increase in premiums.

There's only one thing people in power want. More power.

They only care about an ideology in so far as to gain power. What's the hallmark of every powerful entity?

You have to blame someone else for the problems of your followers. Show me one president, senator, representative, dictator or king who hasn't. You focus on who you hate, meanwhile they gain more power.

People who embrace ideology are the dirt the powerful walk on towards their goals. That's what they think of you. Well, that's wrong.

They don't think of you at all.

All things that helped the consumer and addressed the problem of portability and they remain one of the most profitable industries.

By "profitable" you mean what? Stock prices? Has to be. Their profit margins are pretty low compared to other industries. Express Scripts has like a 2% profit margin. United Healthcare has about a 5% margin last time I checked.

And you don't "help the consumer" by driving up costs by 20-30%. Asserting that sort of nonsense in any other market segment would get you laughed out of the building. But somehow it's supposed to make sense with regards to health insurance.

I love the Poli Board, though it can be a bit sobering and unsettling at times. Some real loonies posting there.

Easy for the Insurance companies to raise rates when they know that Obama takes the blame. They signed on to the health exchanges knowing they would get a much larger group with many plans subsidized.

So they're colluding on price and artificially increasing premiums? One of those insurance companies could cut their pricing by 15% and clean up if that was the case.

My health insurance (BC/BS of Texas) is going up to $1350/mo for family coverage. And my deductibles are going from $1200 to $1750. Copays on prescriptions are doubling across the board.

My health insurance has gone up about 400% over the last 7 years with this company.

I've thought this for a while. It is especially evident during these times of presidential elections. I would say all the race bullshite does the same thing. My unsolicited opinion is that the ones who control the money want this as they continue to gain more power and money. There is legitimacy to this 1% thing, it just sucks that the ones who present it in the MSM get worked because they aren't too bright.

I agree with thinking critically. The problem is, the ones telling these kids to think critically usually do that and then push their agenda on these kids who believe it because they are young and easily persuaded. I am sure you have seen this on a college campus. I have seen many professors who excoriate "the right" while engaging the exact same group think that they accuse them of. It is amazing to me.

Even having right wing views are taboo in the department where I work. You better not disagree with anything Obama says or you'll be the office outcast.

One woman I work with accused me of being racist because I have a short haircut. Not kidding. She said I'll probably vote for Trump with my type of haircut.

I don't remember the study or exact numbers, but there were many academics that hid their true opinions for fear of being shunned by their colleagues. It had to do with stuff like religion, social justice (puke), climate change, etc. the number wasn't close to majority but was substantial (20% maybe?).

nobel laureates overwhelmingly contribute to and vote for D.

science and academia are too political. they are part of the few areas that really should try to be neutral.

It's a board of psychopaths. If you have a middle of the road or rational view that differs from the echoing circle jerk of left hating spaz's they shower you with downvotes and retreat to their fallout bunkers.

None of it helped the consumer. Paying more, getting less - that is not helping the consumer.
