Several schools were evacuated after authorities said a suspicious device was found attached to a rail car at the Daiken facility on Highway 20.

The following schools are being dismissed: Julian Harris Leon Sheffield Benjamin Davis Woodmeade West Decatur West Morgan Elementary, Middle School and High School (if students are not picked up before 10:45 they will be bused to Danville High School) Clements High and Tanner High Schools are being transported to Ardmore High School (students that can drive can only leave in a car with parent permission) Blue Springs students will be transported to Cedar Hill Elementary The Decatur Calhoun students, staff and faculty have been instructed to leave immediately and travel away from the Decatur area East Lawrence Elementary, Middle School, and High School (parents have until 11 a.m. to pick them up or they will be transported to the Moulton Coliseum) Police said all other Decatur Schools will have a liberal check-out policy.

Decatur Police, Decatur Fire Department, the Huntsville Bomb Squad and the FBI are on the scene.

Authorities said the estimated potential danger zone is 25 miles and that current weather conditions indicate that the greatest danger area would be to the northeast should an explosion occur.

The Decatur Police Department said the intersection of State Docks Road and Highway 20 West can be used as a reference point.

WAFF 48 News has a crew headed to the scene. Follow this story online at WAFF.com and on air coming up on WAFF 48 News at Noon - https://bit.ly/JFWqQ9

turns out it was 2 lbs of marijuana.

City of Decatur shut itself down over not a bomb, but THE BOMB!

It was heading to a chemical plant so I imagine it is something pretty hazardous.

Police are escorting a cavalry of busses through here.

Daikin

and the Brownsferry Nuclear Plant is nearby. Part of the concern is due to the proximity of the two plants. It's probably all overreactions, but whatevs. I wish work would let me leave like all the schools near me did. That's our weather policy (based on school times),so why can't it be our chemical/nuclear fallout policy.

Also the 3M plant is nearby. The fear is that if 3M blows...yeesh.

Hydrogen Fluoride is what it connected to, and they have confirmed it was an explosive device.

HF isn't flammable. It is though horrifically corrosive.

Well, if 3M blows, you'll be sticky from now on, but able to easily peel yourself off stuff without leaving behind any sticky residue.

Where did you hear that? The news sure isn't reporting it. Or at least I've not seen it.

I'm surprised they aren't. Are there no parents employed there?
