Social media.. did it facilitate the speediness of stupidity or just expose it?

I'm really amazed at the amount of people that post things on FB.. like killing or beating cops... and have their profiles public.. their work places listed.. etc...
I probably shouldn't be, but is anyone else dumbfounded at the stupidity of people today? And that's not even saying that even thinking those things are ok.

It just facilitated it.
I am old enough to remember when the internet was mostly college students and upper middle class people.

Exposed the stupidity for sure.

Definitely exposed...my generation would have looked even dumber had we had social media growing up.

Exposed it. The stupidity has always been there. Ain't nothing new under the sun.

Remember when CompUSA was the coolest store in town?

Exposed it for sure. I honestly had no idea there were so many stupid people in the world, especially in America. I thought Americans were special. Now I know we really are but not for the reasons I thought.

Exposed and later facilitated stupidity.

Having thought privilege, I was actually pretty shocked to find out most 27 year olds weren't like me.
Heck, most 30 somethin's aren't like me either.
What's shocked me the most however, is how many creepy old dudes are on the internet making masturbation jokes.

A bit of both. It's provided man to showcase his utter stupidity across the entire globe & in doing so humanity has taken it to another level. With that said, the internet & social media is still the greatest innovation by man to exchange knowledge & ideas with his fellow man. It's the ultimate gift & curse scenario.

I would have to say that it merely facilitated it. People have always been stupid. It used to be that when someone got liquored-up, they'd just call a friend to expound upon their idiotic thought. Now they can broadcast their bullshite globally within a matter of seconds.

A bit of both... I think some things would have been posted 20, 30, or 40 years ago but the current crop of "young people" seems to have absolutely no shame. While it's pleasant to look at, some of these girls these days don't seem to realize that those half naked (or more than half) bathroom pics that they broadcast all over the internet can and will come back to haunt them one day.

I think the internet makes even smart people do dumb things. Everybody has to have an opinion or a hot take on everything. 50 years ago things would happen a week before anybody heard about it. Now I get updates on my phone from twitter about news events before the news even reports them.
If it really exposed anything, it exposed mankind's desire to be heard at all cost.
