I watched the documentary on Doc Ellis throwing the no-hitter while on LSD on Netflix last week. Made me remember my old baseball cards that I collected whenever I got any kind of change at all when I was a kid in the '70s. My mom (bless her heart) kept them for me and I always treated them very carefully. I literally have hundreds of them.

In the '90s, I put all of them in individual plastic containers and set them aside.

Well, watching the documentary caused me to pull them out again and look on the interwebs to check the value. I, uh, have a lot of $$ in baseball cards now, apparently. My '72 Roberto Clemente (the last season before he was killed in a plane crash) is worth $3,200 mint.

Now, I know it's only worth that if someone will pay for it, etc., etc., but I have tons of cards from that era, a ton of doubles, and they're all in great shape. Most in mint condition.

Not planning on selling any time soon, but it looks like I've got a bit of $$ in baseball cards, which is nice.

Thanks Netflix!

Would be interesting for you to value one of them. Tell us how much you paid for it and what it is valued now. Then test the market and try to sell it. Come back and tell us what you got for it. Could be fun, no? Just 1 card.

I have hundreds in plastic and hundreds I still need to put in plastic.

Might do that and then forget them for another 10-20 years.

Well, I'd buy a small pack for a nickle, a larger pack for .25 cents. And, yeah, I'd always chew the gum, no matter how nasty.

So I may have paid one or two cents a card, tops.

I'm not selling my Clemente, but I've got doubles and triples of a bunch, including Dale Murphy and Andre Dawson rookie cards, etc.

I've got all of the Reds during their huge run, including Rose, Morgan, Bench, Foster, Concepcion, etc.

Would take me days to catalogue and check on the value of all of them. I'll probably do that when I retire or something.

Like i said, pick 1 card, any card and do it. I think a lot of people are curious to see how close you get to that value mark.

Yeah I have 5 photo albums full of mint cards, some are worth some coin, also have a few nib complete 1st year sets from a couple of card companies.

Thanks mom and dad for not throwing them away. I wonder how much money I wasted in my bicycle spokes

Would never have put any of my cards, even the checklists, on bicycle spokes.

Also collected football cards during that time frame and actually have Steve Spurrier's rookie card, the bastidge.

Also collected Marvel comics during that time frame and have some decent issues, including Gwen Stacy's death in Spiderman and the first appearance of The Punisher (also Spiderman). Got Silver Surfer #1 - bought for 25 cents at the time (it was an oversized issue). I'm guessing it's worth a bit more today.

The best football card I have that's in good shape is Steve Largent's rookie card

Man I was a kid and if they weren't Astros I didn't care, I had not yet come to appreciate all of baseball yet

Unfortunately, I was in Chicago when I collected cards, so I was partial to the Cubs. I have a shite ton of useless Cubs cards.

Except Bruce Sutter and maybe Dave Kingman (maybe). But they still have some sentimental value, so what the frick.

If you want that kind of coin you have to get them graded. Obviously, the higher the grade the more it's worth. And use Ebay's recently sold price as a guide.

Truth. And it looks pretty expensive to have them graded like that.

My folks moved out of my childhood home a few weeks ago, and I found all of my old comics and comic cards.

Not nearly old enough yet to be worth anything (everything is from the mid-90s), but I wonder if any of it is worth money.

It just depends. You could take a $100 card and make it worth $1500 if it grades out pretty high. Not a bad investment for $15-$20.

It just depends on what era they are from. Pretty much anything after 1980 is considered junk unless it's serial numbered or is a RC for a HOF player.
