Well my dentist wasn't much help with this so I come to you, oh wise experts of the OT, should I get my wisdom teeth removed? The dentist says there aren't any obvious problems if I leave them in but there COULD be issues down the road.

I'd just assumed skip all the trouble and discomfort and keep them but they say the older you are when you have them removed the worse it is and I'm already 24. Advice?

what trouble?

I'd definitely get them out. Take a Friday off work and have it done that morning, you'll be back to work on Monday. I know everyone's story is different, but I have 2 taken out and it was a breeze...definitely didn't feel a thing during the procedure and I had no pain/bleeding after. It truly was simple. Plus you get some fun pills.

I had two taken out but bleeding was a bitch. The laughing gas was worth it though.

I'm 42 and still have 3 of mine. I cracked one and had it pulled instead of repaired. They don't cause me any problems.

I wouldn't have them taken out unless they're causing you issues.

The only reason I had my top ones taken out was they were coming in impacted. They suggested having the bottoms taken out "in case they moved". 5 years later still no issues with them.

FWIW, I was 29 when mine came out. It wasn't fun but I've had worse procedures.

At your age, and if they aren't impacted, I'd say go for it, if you have any good reason to do it.

If you think you might do any cosmetic tooth stuff later in life, for example.

I had mine done, two at a time, and I didn't see what the big deal was. Sorta hurt, but so do most dentist appointments.

I didn't get mine removed until I was 30 and only because one of them started to hurt like hell. Procedure is easy and no complications.

4 impacted, get them out man. Don't wait for teeth problems, get them done before they get bad. I wouldn't even take a chance since nothing bad can come from getting them removed.

Except infection or dry socket

How common is impaction? Is that just where they grow into the bone so far it's a bitch to get them out?

The Army "pulled" mine lol. It was not a pleasant experience but in the long run I am glad I did. Plus I got out of a two week field problem.

Which can happen regardless of any surgery (redundant to say).

or dry socket

Only if it's impacted. Otherwise it's less than 5%.

The chances of your wisdom teeth getting fricked up are pretty high.

Why have something removed just because it might cause you problems down the road? Your dick could get cancer, want to preempt that problem as well??

I have 2 uncles who are dentists and a sister in law in dental school.

All of their advice has been the same to me: They look just fine now, but if I have to have them removed later (get a cavity they can't reach in the back or something else) then the longer I wait, the worse it will be.

I'm waiting. They haven't fallen out of my head yet.
