SC doesn't like to help those in need. Will it get its comeuppance?

Gov. Nikki Haley made South Carolina a promise Tuesday: "We're not going to stop until we get everything back up and fixed again," she said.

But she wouldn't get into where the money will come from.

If Congress decides to consider a special relief bill, South Carolina could face a different kind of payback. Five of the state's six U.S. House members and both U.S. senators voted against an aid package for northeastern states after Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Flood slams SC's already shoddy infrastructure

Yeah Lindsey Graham is a piece of shite, but being vindictive in a time of crisis is bad form.

I agree. South Carolina will probably get what it needs, even if it doesn't deserve it.

Deserve has nothing to do with it. The people need it.

Their politicians can go suck a hot cock, however.

You don't punish hurting people for the stupid actions of some ignorant politicians.

It doesn't sound like South Carolina has fixed a bridge in 100 years. That's small government in action, right there.

And right after the federal government bails them out, they'll go back to screaming about how they gotta keep their taxes way down low.

But your overall point is well taken. If I were a Northern Congressman, I would vote to help South Carolina. Now is not the time for vengeance.

After Katrina, people all over the country were asking why New Orleans should get aid and be rebuilt. It is amazing how many parts of the country have needed aid since then.

Maybe everyone should just keep their mouths shut and help people in need? There is a good chance that you will need it one day.

Yeah, well, I'd vote against it too at that time. The "Sandy Relief" bill was a pork packed mess of a spending bill that had a huge fraction of it's dollars not related at all to the actual relief efforts. A LOT of congressmen tried to amend the bill without success and ultimately voted against it.

Unfortunately, omnibus bills often mean that how a congressman votes is not always reflective of how they believe or how well they are doing their job - and this flaw is reflected in the national debt numbers that are spiraling out of control. If I were Grand Poobah of the White House... I would veto ALL omnibus bills. Period. From either party. There would be no spending bill make it past my desk voluntarily that was not at the department level, and also if there was not at least 7 days for plenty of examination and publicity.

I could give a shite what some dumbass politician voted for/against as a "representative" of the state.

The people of South Carolina deserve help when in crisis. frick anyone who says otherwise.

Graham claims he doesn't remember voting against it.

"I'm all for helping the people in New Jersey. I don't really remember me voting that way," Graham said.

Pressed further, he said: "Anyway, I don't really recall that, but I'd be glad to look and tell you why I did vote no, if I did."

But here is how he feels about spending now.

"Let's just get through this thing, and whatever it costs, it costs," Graham told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on "The Situation Room" on Monday of the devastating floods in his home state.

He is a mealy mouthed count.

To be fair, people have been questioning the wisdom in building a major city in a coastal marsh below sea level for several hundred years. It wasn't the first nor last time such a discussion was had. When it was first established, the general consensus was "that shite gon' flood" and that was in the early 18th century.

We should let South Carolina take care of this on the state level. They're always shouting about state's rights.
