That's badass
Wonder why the Soviets didn't salvage the hulls? Maybe it can't be re-purposed.
They should list them on eBay...or eBay Motors (not sure which would apply here )

Why do the Soviets/Russians always just abandon shite? That's a huge facility that could easily be repurposed.

That's really interesting.
Russians are such disgusting and awful people, and Ivan Drago can suck it.

Re-purposing and renovating is the realm of capitalists. The Russians have always been a bit capitalism-deficient.

This is proof cold weather and Vodka are utterly depressing.

They might as well put a torch to it all, no one is alive that knew that system or technology

The bigger question not being asked in this thread is why their shuttle looks so much like ours? Could it be they had the better spy network?

That's the first thing I thought. Or, its actually design that came from Nazi Germany. We wouldn't have had much of a space program in the 60s without German intelligence.

Wow. It's one thing to abandon the facility, but at least they could have the decency to put both of those shuttles in museums somewhere in Russia for little kids to look at.

They're probably in Kazakstan. When the Soviet Union imploded, the former captive republics like Kazakstan nationalized everything Russian that was within their borders. Russia has had to buy back or take militarily, such as the Crimea, its former holdings.

It's no secret that the Russian space shuttle program was built on cornerstones of stolen US technology. It's my understanding, though, that they rushed into the program using old intel that was a decade behind the shuttles we launched.

Correct. No better way to show your weakness than by displaying shuttles that the soviets couldn't even get to the launch site.

No question. Go look up the Soviet version of the Concorde, the TU-144. An almost exact replica, and cool stories of how they got the plans from the French.

How about the ruins of the U.S. space shuttle program? We've scrapped our space shuttle program as well.
Where's our space shuttle trash?

The Tu144 actually flew 2 months before the Concorde ever did.
And then was plagued with mechanical difficulties.
