Agreed

I haven't owned a gun in almost 20 years. But the world keeps getting crazier and I keep thinking it's about time to pick up a couple 12 gauges.

You guys need to stop living in the cold war and realize that if shite ever does hit the fan, it won't be some assault with troops on our shores or a hostile takeover. It'll be some kind of cyber attack on our electric grid, nuclear reactors, financial system, etc. Global economics dictate that the world wouldn't allow a full blow WW3 between powerful countries.

Who is "youz guys?"

I agree totally. It'll be a cyber attack or an EMP burst or poisoning of the water in a major city or the release of some toxic agent in a major city.

Look ... terrorists already took the grid down, the power station, outside of Silicon Valley and the Obama administration covered it up and no citizens were made the wiser.

Just a few weeks ago they knocked-out the power station in Maryland that supplies Washington DC ... and the government covered it up and most citizens could care less.

They are going to come after the grid. It'll be multi-pronged. It'll be them hitting the power stations and the power lines at the same time ... plus they'll hit us with a cyber attack at the same time.

Knock-out our power for a week and watch this country melt down.

At the very least - but that would be a good start. Two is one and one is none when prepping .... so make sure they are both the same model. Two Mossberg 500s or two Rem 870s or something like that.

Get you a good pistol too ... a used revolver or something, and plenty of ammo.

Stash away a little extra food and first aid supplies, your meds, etc. A little bit at a time and it will grow before you know it.

I hope we never have to use it - I do. But it's insurance for yourself and your family. There is also a certain liberating quality to it - a confident feeling of being prepared for just about anything.

Too many people are living paycheck to paycheck these days. People have gotten too used to stopping off at the store or hitting the drive-through every day in order to eat. People are used to turning on their faucet and water coming out.

It would take less than three days for society to begin to break down in the event of power loss.

Listen, this should probably be a spinoff topic but I ask you ... why are banks ordering safety deposit box holders to get their cash outta there and why are banks about to start reporting withdrawels of $5000.00 or more to police?

What is their purpose?

Iunno. Why would you ever pay cash for something worth 5k or more? If you have the cash, use a credit card, pay it off immediately, and get a ton of free airline miles out of it.

Additionally, on the same day, why does the USDA issue a statement that U.S. citizens need to no longer worry about the expiration dates on their canned goods ... and in the event of an emergency, or even for everyday used, dates/cans that have expired as long as 18-24 months ago are still edible.

Iunno. If I ever had a question about the expiration of a product, I'd just google it. I wouldn't look up USDA statements.

What was their purpose for doing that?

Their purpose? Iunno. Maybe some lobbying by Wal-Mart to be able to sell some canned goods. I don't see what conspiracy angle you're going with.

Texas has our own power grid. I think we'll be fine.

I think that was the turning point for a lot of Americans. A lot of things were going-on in '05. Hard to believe it was ten years ago.

But there had been the whole y2k scare too ... and fear the grid was going to shut down and banks would quit working at the turn of the millennium. Seems small potatoes now but I remember how systems mangers and programmers were scrambling everywhere to come-up with the patch and get everyone to get it downloaded and installed before Prince started singing at midnight.

So that was probably the first awakening of the general public since The Great Depression Years.

Then came 9/11 of course and we realized we were vulnerable here, even on our own soil.

Then Katrina ... the real turning point, the real wake-up call. I have a buddy who has been in the Army-Navy Surplus business for more than 50 years. He's always said he never got rich until immediately after Katrina when he couldn't keep his preps stuff in stock. So he started adding Mountain House products, and fancy European mountain stoves and boom ... he couldn't keep the stuff on his shelves. (We had already had Hugo pound us in '89 here in SC btw ... but we worked together in SC whereas what scared people about NOLA and Katrina was how society collapsed, how the criminal element in NOLA took over, etc.)

2008 and The Great Recession. My wife and I put-in the big generators that year and we installed the first solar panels and the first battery bank.

People now are doing it as a new way of life. Habits are changing. Europe's been doing it far far longer. Europe has lived through a bunch of wars.

We're still spoiled ...

It's easy.

As far as the banks implementing a new, and coerced btw, policy of preventing their clients from getting to their money, that one's simple and two parted.

1 - They are doing it under the auspices of preventing criminals from cash laundering. However, obviously, it's under government orders of some sort ... a way to control the citizenry. Records of every purchase. A way to track guns and ammo buys for instance. Ways to track other things we like to buy with cash like precious metals, bulk food, fuel of all kinds.

2 - The banks are worried about an impending collapse. It's got to happen sooner or later .... sooner probably. Obama has been printing cash like a crazy man. Rates have been kept artificially low. He'll frick it up real good right before he leaves office. Banks are trying to prevent runs on the money. Listen, when the big banks are not allowing you to cash your checks anymore ... when they are insisting that you deposit the money and then do all your transactions electronically ... that's just a bad signal. Chase, JP Morgan, now BOA and soon Wells Fargo ... no more storing cash in their safety deposit boxes. This is all coming from the central bank. This was one of the things Obama stated he wanted done before he left office.

The USDA announcement was supposed to be about food waste but it's since been exposed as part of the new Homeland Security policy that is going to encourage people to have at least 32 pds of canned goods stashed away per person in your family ... and even then, IMHO that's not enough. That might get one person through a week maybe. But Homeland Security is claiming that so many people are prepping now that a lot of outdated food is going to waste and that it's okay to keep eating the food after the expiration date on the can or box. Thus, encouraging more people to start prepping and keep on prepping ... you just gotta learn to rotate.

Yesterday and today several cities conducted dirty bomb drills up north.

You're so far out of touch it's actually frightening to witness.

Obama doesn't create currency. The US government doesn't create currency.

The FED creates currency and then loans it to the government, with interest, which is what a good chunk of our income tax pays (the interest).

Banks also create currency through fractional reserve banking. If I deposit 1 dollar, it gives the bank the right to create 10 dollars out of thin air. Further explanation of this scam wouldn't be worth it.

Basically you don't know what the frick you're talking about.

That's your BOL ... and a camper up there would be cool. But you meant Bethany, SC, right?

Did you know that one of the largest prepping groups in the country is located not far from there? A group has hundreds of acres up there and has moved there from all over the country. One of the absolutely oldest prepper sites, from back in the early 90s, originated in Traveler's Rest. When they were looking for land they tried the Traveler's Rest area but couldn't find a large enough parcel ... so they started down I-85 towards Gaffney ... and eventually they found a place just northeast of Gaffney near the SC/NC state line. They are a pretty tight group and they've been doing it a long time. They've got doctors and dentists and lawyers, an electrical engineer, et al.
