They had a huge referendum in the State in the early 2000's to change it. Had Jesse and Al whipping up a firestorm leading up to the vote.

I thought at the time that what killed it was the insinuation that yankee businesses would be reluctant to set up shop in Mississippi because of the flag. (And the people rejoiced.) It will change someday, but never, ever because of Northern influence.

Plus, the alternative was meh.

Don't really care one way or the other. It seems like residents of other states have an issue with it more than Mississippi residents.

I have no recollection of Northern businessmen being at play I do know that most ignorant arse, lesser educated people in this state love to piss the rest of the country off for various reasons. I'm sure a lot of people voted to keep it just to say "frick you" to the rest of the nation. The Soviet Union is probably to blame more than anyone else. Without a common foe the entire country can hate and focus our anger at we begin to look inward and beat up each other. Mississippi is an easy target. So frick you Mikhail Gorbachev!

This is the flag I want, so I can fly it in Texas. Cannot fly the current one, Texans are too dumb to understand it is just a state flag. They think I am trying to make some statement . Just my home state man, just my home state.

If I lived in Mississippi I'd retaliate by hauling down my Pennsylvania flag and burn it. Oh snap, there are no Pennsylvania flags in Mississippi. I guess then I wouldn't care what Philadelphia does.

People wanting this flag...do you no realize that this is a more Confederate Flag than the current one. This flag was the one adopted when Miss seceded and joined the CSA. This is the actual MS Confederate flag. I like them both, but prefer the current one

I actually did know that, but it's mainly because I'm a bit of a flag nerd

It's not about making it "less confederate," necessarily (although that'd be my personal preference). It's about removing it from the divisive racial connotations that have come to be associated quite readily with the current flag's canton.

why can't you fly the current one? no law against it. I saw four rebel flags driving to Longview today. Of course, it is East Texas, not sure where you are.
