I'm really leaning towards going in the Navy after I graduate college(spring 2018) I just wanted to know how much say you have over where you are to be stationed. I know which job I choose will factor into it, and I've read material from the Navy on stationing, but i thought it'd be nice to hear firsthand from some vets and/or active duty members. Thanks

You get a wish list out of school. I got three choices. Rank has its privileges so expect to get sent wherever the Navy needs you in the beginning.

Go in as an officer and forfeit the bonus or student loan payoff they might offer if you go in as an enlisted.

Not everyone wants the expectations that come with being an officer. Some just want to be accountable for themselves to start off.

If you go in expecting to be stationed in a certain area, then expect to be disappointed. When you're low man on the totem pole you go where you're told.

You're a damn fool if you go enlisted with a Bachelors Degree.

Naval Officer is a damn sight better than Enlisted.

Go OCS, and pick your badge. I have no idea how it works for khakis, but if it's anything like enlisted you'll get a "Dream Sheet", you give them your top three, then you go from there.

Good luck, you'll enjoy the Navy much more as an officer.

Trust me.

Definitely go the Zero route. If it is anything like the Marince Corps you get to pick 3 jobs/MOS. as an officer in the Corps they all go through TBS in Quantico. They split the class into 3rds by class standing and the billets into 3rds as well. So if there are 30 infantry slots and 3 tanker slots then you get 10 infantry and 1 tanker per 3rd. So it pays to be a the top of your 3rd to ensure you get what you want. As far at stationing... It is the need of the fill in the name of the service over the needs of the individual. But if you are a SWO in the Navy it really won't matter because you'll spend a great amount of time floating.

Going officer is the right choice. You will fill out what we called a dream sheet. It's where you would like to be stationed. It's called a dream sheet for a reason. It's a dream if you get any of your picks. It also depends on you MOS. AF has the most choices. Not sure how many the other branches have. 25 years ago I put all costal bases and got Germany. Coming back I was told to keep picks regional. Pick all gulf Coast and up the east coast. Got Utah.

Yep.

Keep your dream sheet to the coast you want to be stationed on.

If you want to go overseas, list three overseas spots and roll the dice.

Generally, the Navy will try and get you a billet on your coast, or overseas.

If you go something like...

1. Pearl Harbor
2. Jacksonville
3. San Diego

Good luck.

With something like that you'd probably end up in Groton, Connecticut.

It all depends on what you decide to do though. What field are you looking to get into?

Combat, Engineering, Supply, depends where they need you. Wanna be a pilot? You'll go to Florida for flight training, then get sent to a squadron. Wanna be a nuke? You're going to school for two years, then get a dream sheet.

Good luck man, the Navy life sucks, but like anything else that sucks you'll be a better man for it.

Plus, in this day and age even sailors get laid in home port just because. That didn't happen back in the day.

Ultimately, "the needs of the service" will determine where you go.

That being said, you can make a list. If it is mutually beneficial, you will get our choice.

My advice would be to avoid The Navy like the plague unless you want to spend months telling unmotivated fat bodies to paint things.

Go Army, tell the recruiter you want to put in a Warrant Officer Packet and drive gun ships.

You'll be combat arms ( esprit de Corp ) , you'l be out of the enlisted world shite but not into the flack of gayness that is being an officer. And you may get to wear Spurs and a sweet cavalry hat to work.

Two years too early. Need to see who wins the next election first.
