I can't be the only one that feels this way. A lot of my friends love these shows. I find them boring and fake.

You know there's plenty of clips where people say "frick you" and walk out with their shite that the owner wishes he had. That's what I want to see.

I like Pawn Stars but thats the only one. It has gone down hill quite a bit with all of the joke side plots. But its not like they are pretending its real drama. I just fast forward through these parts and get to the historical items brought in.

Pawn Stars was cool at first just because of some of the items you got to see.

Pawn Stars started with good intentions.

Sort of The Beverly Hillbillies does the Antique Road Show ... in Vegas.

It's been a huge money maker. I've actually been to that pawn shop ... it's nothing as it seems on TV. None of the family is ever there and everything in the place is overpriced.

For a far righter you dont seem to understand business too well. The owner doesnt "want his stuff". He wants to make a profit. No intelligent person walks into a pawn shop trying to sell something thinking thats the best place to get value.

Well, no shite.

So, never in any instance has a person walked into a pawn shop, been lowballed, carried their shite elsewhere while the shopkeeper wished he'd offered more to obtain said profit?

He knows what he has to offer to keep his business a float. He knows how long the item will sit around, how much space it will take up, how much time it will take to clean/fix/present the item plus other standard fixed costs. All offers are well below value. Thats understood, and not why you go there to sell an item. So i dont get how any intelligent person can possibly get mad at a pawn shop.

Caveat venditor.

You're an idiot.

Yes he's trying to make a profit. No shite. But there are items that come that he thinks would be cool to have in his store for a little bit until he can sell it. If the price is too high he'll say no but he still wanted it in his store, just not at that price.

It's also a negotiation. Which means that he will read the person and try to lowball people he thinks will take the lowball offer. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn't.

You are an idiot. If he wanted the items he would buy them. If he doesnt buy them its because it doesnt make good business sense. Its as simple as that. You getting all angry and emotional doesnt change it.

You're missing the whole point. Have you ever wanted something but the price was too high? It's the same principle. You can want something but not want to buy it.

Not angry or emotional. Why would I be on this subject?

Just because you're stupid doesn't automatically mean the disagreeing party is being emotional. You'd obviously be terrible at running a pawn shop. Nobody hits every shot they take. If someone thinks their shite is worth more, they carry it elsewhere. It usually is worth more in pawning situations.

You are a moron. You would bankrupt any business trying to buy items at break even value.

Sure I am. No way it's the guy with 3 other reasonable posters telling him how life works. You're wrong. Accept it and move on to your next flame job.

I pay the amount of money it is worth to me, just like he buys it at the value that it is worth him to pay, then resell. How are you not getting it??? Any item he negotiates he "wants". If he didnt want it he wouldnt offer money for it. If he wanted the item enough to pay more for it then he would offer more when the original amount is denied.

What this is really about is you watch the show and you get all butthurt because you think the guy got screwed. That's his fault for either not educating himself on the value, or being in too much of a hurry to sell.

Pawn shop shows are stupid but, I do check in occasionally to see how fat Chumlee has gotten. The Detroit one is better when the daughter fights with the one with giant ears.....

I despise the title pawn business but, sometimes on a rainy weekend I pull out a wad of cash and go to barter town and well, barter...

You've never wanted something that was overpriced? Let's say I wanted a coke. But the price is $10. I'm paying $10 to get it but I still want the coke.

I've attempted to make clear to you the simple point that was being made that you were missing. Obviously I've failed or you're just ignoring the point. As for the show, I used to watch but lost interest after awhile. If somebody gets screwed that was there choice so I don't see how they can complain.
