I enjoy cycling myself. I'm planning to take a weekend and ride from Birmingham to Gulf Shores this summer.

The Green Tea doesn't really burn fat-though that's the marketing schtick. I take it for the caffeine kick so I don't have to mess with making coffee before I go run or go to the gym.

The more mindless, robotic and efficient my 4:30 a.m. routine is, the less likely I am to get mentally sidetracked before I get out the door.

Which roads? It only takes a weekend? Isn't that 270 miles? Are we talking motorcycling? Are you catching a ride back?

I have a road bike and have only used it on our local rails-to-trails (41 miles-I haven't gone the distance). It would scare the hell out of me to get out on the road with it.

I have 4 day weekends and I've done it before. Leave Thursday, get there Friday, enjoy the beach and seafood, leave Saturday and home Sunday. I've been cycling since I was little so it's done fairly easy. It's all about the ride.

Who ate too much and drank too much over the weekend and will be paying for it in a workout tonight and a run in the morning?

This guy.

But it's hard to turn down cheeseburgers, sausage, potato salad, baked beans, mini apple pies, Blue Bell vanilla ice cream, Shiner, 1792 Small Batch...

...then crawfish, corn, potatoes, more sausage, mushrooms, assorted dips, peanut butter cookies, Budweiser, Patron shots, margaritas... and a late night grilled cheese.

Eating is not 1/2 the battle. It is THE battle.

I've cut out a lot of drinking, but should probably abstain after this weekend. My liver hurts.

I drink nightly but I still try to be active and work out. I'm sure if I stopped drinking, I'd achieve more weightlifting and athletic goals. Im 27 though and breaking PRs in power cleans, squats, and deadlifts are in the past. Now I'm trying to stay in a great workout routine that is best acclimated to my personal goals.

I turned 40 on Monday and acted like I turned 25... on top of my heavy weekend partying. I went to 5:00 a.m. workout on Tuesday. That was a bitch. I'm really surprised I didn't throw up.

The workouts on Wednesday and yesterday were great... and I didn't drink the nights before.

Boozing every night for me was a regular thing and I could still get up and go workout or run in the morning. However, the past 2 years, I have noticed that my physical and intellectual functioning suffer if I even have 1 drink the evening before.

TL:DR: Old+drink=low productivity.

Thank you. I still feel 25 most of the time... but I can tell it's starting to catch up.

What I wouldn't give to really be 25 again and know what I know now.

I know what you mean, I'll be 41 in Sept. I don't feel it, doc says I'm in better shape than most half my age, but the mental and some stamina is slipping lol.

Not a chance I'd go back even 10 yrs. Lol

Happy early birthday

This 40 y/o thing is a milestone-but I'm not sure whether it's good or bad. It's motivated me to run a marathon when I previously said I never would, so there's that. Ha.

But not being in my 30's anymore makes me officially "old," although I don't feel it.

Oh well. Guess I'll get married and settle down now.

Hahahahahahaha

Thank you!

Dood, you're 40 not dead lmao. Life is just getting good, don't break my groove lol.

Kid is leaving home soon, downsized my house, everything is paid for, sweet job that I can for the most part pick my hours. Time to enjoy the fruits.

Didn't mean to break your groove.

Life has certainly become more streamlined as I've aged. Work and health goals are a lot more important than they used to be-and it's easier not to sweat the small crap-and 50% of all crap is small crap.

I can't upvote that enough!!! That's it right there, nailed it, "Streamline" and simplify. Some things that used to matter, like you said, is crap now. That's why i don't want to go back lol. Dating is difficult but looking at the kids today, I wouldn't want to go back lol.

Cheers to health and the simple life.

Getting back in the groove

Trying to hump out three 6 milers a week now. Not sure if I'm going to build much farther than that. Not much left for me as far as goalsetting since the doctor basically made it clear that my leg will never hold up for a marathon

Not bad, for a geezer.

What's your time on 6 miles? (You asked me mine on the 1/2 I ran-and though embarrassing, I gave it.)

I've been doing a watered-down outdoor version of Crossfit for the past few weeks with the SO and running. 1/2 marathon in October and a full marathon in February is the goal. Real running training starts back in late June, early July.
