I LOVE sports of every type, but in my very busy life right now I am embarrassed to say that this one took me by surprise.

I remember 1996 in Atlanta, when I was really young, and the hype was insane. It was "THE" Olympic games and something that MUST be watched. I remember China and London, but somehow forget the rest due to my age. Russia and Greece, maybe???

Any of you older, but certainly "wiser", people want to fill me in as to how this one in Brazil isn't catching on?

Aren't these events supposed to be more exciting than this?

I loved those games in the past. Why is the excitement lost all of a sudden?

Let's get it on! This should be a great time!

Summer Olympics are boring. Although I might watch just to see how many used condoms are on the face of the water sport athletes when they finish their race.

I respectfully disagree.

These are elite athletes in their prime. It is truly amazing to watch.

Yeah, it's too early yet. I'm sure the people in Brazil are excited, though.

The Atlanta Olympics were not special. It was blazing hot and the bomb in Centennial Park took the fun out of it for me.

That didn't stop Rome, Athens, London, Atlanta, Beijing or Paris in the past.

I think that a simple mosquito virus is inconsequential right now in relation to Rio.

Wasn't a virus in Africa supposed to take down the world either last year or the year before?

Zika isn't simple by any means. It causes birth defects. Microcephaly is the most horrible defect of note.

The viral outbreak in Africa was Ebola. About 12,000 people died in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. It took a world wide effort to subdue it.

It is always blazing hot that time of the year in Atlanta.

[But, as far as 1996 Atlanta is concerned] It was a pretty amazing, and a record-setting, time for American "sports" despite the bombing. Sorry if you were bored during those events.

Can you recall any of those final scores?

I doubt you are a true Atlantian from the early 90's.

Just moved here in the 2000's?

Ebola was a simple vaccine away. Problem solved.

Ebola is a third-world problem.

The SEC is huge in representation right now.

Swimming/Diving is more of my sport and swimmers from UGA, Auburn and Florida are killing it in qualifying. Team America is already set, (Lochte, Hansen and Phelps) but those Nationals were no joke. Unbelievably hard competition. It was fun to watch.

Kentucker

Do you know the difference between bacteria and a virus?

You should just stop watching the news for a while...and stop pretending like you are an expert.

Where did you obtain your degree?

Olympics don't mean anything since the fall of the Iron Curtain and the USA using professionals in many sports.

I thought that they banned "professionals/wage earners" in relation to competition.

Most of the Olympics news so far has been what a shite show Brazil and Rio are right now. Crime, political corruption, polluted waters, event sites behind schedule, etc.

Swimming was my sport. Started swimming for our last Olympic coach at 13... at 18 he took the uf job and I had to find a new school lol. Same club team produced 3 NCAA/American record breakers this year. Damn near enough to make our own medley relay, that would medal.

BTW team America has 0 spots currently filled. It all goes down next week for swimming.

The 100 Meter Dash may be the most exciting thing in sports.

Ok. That takes less than a minute. What about the rest of the month?
