"If everybody voted, then it would completely change the political map in this country," he said, adding that mandatory voting would "counteract money more than anything."

quote:

Mandatory voting certainly would alter the political map -- and likely in the president's favor. Less than 37 percent of Americans voted in November's election, and those who didn't would probably have supported Democrats. With mandatory voting, the election might have been a victory for Obama's party, rather than a defeat.

top upvoted comment on reddit brought some common sense too if you ask me.

Do what every country but ours does make election day a national paid holiday, close everything.

I like the idea of making it a national holiday but don't think it should be mandatory

If they made it a holiday, it wouldn't improve voter turnout much if at all. Most employers allow for people to come in late/leave early on election day.

He may be right, but I actually want fewer and fewer people to vote. So my vote counts for more. I'd be happy if the number of committed voters in this country dwindled to, say, fewer than 100,000. 1 in 100,000: those are fighting odds for a man with my reckless temperament and bizarre belief system.

So, everyone has vote, yet nobody has to show ID to do it?

I'm all for encouraging people to vote but I stop short of making it mandatory. A tax break for voters would be nice.

I don't think anyone on welfare should be allowed to vote. Voters on the dole are all too predictable.

If every public servant acted like it, that would completely change the political map, too, wouldn't it obama?

which is another reason he wants to completely open the U.S.'s doors to more illegal immigrants. WE're already giving them IRS refunds. Now let make more of them vote. It does not take a genius to connect the dots. Despite what Gruber says about us.

I've had to show my license in Kentucky as long as I've been voting. It's weird to me that it's not required elsewhere.

And mandatory voting is full of the tard. It should be my right to abstain from voting for idiots if I choose to do so and there's plenty of people who need to be nowhere near a ballot box. We've almost always had election days off here since schools are used as voting sites and when they've made it a PD day I just go when I get off work anyway.

I think you should have to pass some kind of literacy test to be allowed to vote. Why can't we do something like that, huh?

I think you should be employed and paying taxes to vote. I also believe felons should have the right to vote if they are no longer locked up and are off paper.

Cas I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to vote if you are on welfare, but if your family has been on welfare for more than a generation then no you can't vote.
