"No Swimming – Alligators" sign. But Friday, July 3rd that rule was broken.

She ran outside when she heard screams. She said the gator pulled Woodward underwater twice.
"The alligator grabbed him and pulled him under," said captain Enmon.
Employees said Woodward would regularly swim in the bayou, along with many others, including children.
"I mean kids are out here swimming in the bayou everyday with three or four footers," said Enmon. "I mean that's not that big a deal."
But after the large gator was spotted near the marina about two weeks ago, the restaurant's owner posted a "No Swimming – Alligators" sign. But Friday, that rule was broken.
Wright said Woodward was drinking prior to the attack, but police said they can't confirm if alcohol was a factor until they receive autopsy results, which are pending.

I wouldn't want to swim with a 4 foot alligator anywhere near me. Couldn't a 4 footer drag a kid under water?

The article says that people, including kids swam there regularly. Probably had been doing it all his life. I agree, it was stupid but it isn't like he dove in the tank at Sea World..

Correct, and there were no issues. That is, until 2 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago, after a large and dangerous one was spotted that was an issue. And the business acted accordingly by warning the public. It'd be aboslutely no different than a beach putting up a double red flag warning beachgoers that the ocean conditions are dangerous and to stay out of the water, and someone ignoring that and going in anyway and being dragged out to sea.
Those warnings are there for a reason.

I've seen people do similar things in combat. Take risks for no reason and pay an ultimate price. It's really no different but I'd never say "it serves them right" I guess..

Maybe I'm just too rational and logical. IMO, if you're doing something stupid to intentionally and flagrantly put yourself in the line of death, despite being warned not to do so, and end up dying, I'd say he got what was coming to him.

Well, it is Orange County, not exactly known for producing geniuses. But anybody swimming in murky water in an East TX bayou should know that there's a good chance of gators and they're putting their life in the hands of a prehistoric killing machine.
