Decided to try the one month free trial of Netflix streaming service. Huge disappointment in a critical area for me which is classic movies, old and new, or the really best movies. Turns out Netflix streaming carries only about 10% of the top movies as rated by IMDB and others. For example, Netflix recently streamed only 31 movies out of the IMDB top 250, with similar numbers to Time Magazine. I love all the James Bond movies, but none of the Connery ones are carried.

On the positive side, Netflix does stream a lot of other interesting content, particularly documentaries. I can see myself subscribing for about three months and then canceling, so in the end a decent deal I guess.

And Netflix still offers the DVD/Blue Ray by mail, where all the best movies are available.

No one gets Netflix for streaming classic movies. Do better research next time.

He's doing his research through a free trial which seems reasonable to me.

Netflix is shitty for movies, good for shows.

If you want movies try HBO Go

Yep, Netflix does not even allow a potential user to see what movies are offered; they did a few years ago but discontinued

It's just such an odd and borderline out of touch thing to say. It's like he said "Trying out this Internet thing. I don't care for it so far, pretty limited compared to what I expected." The complaint is about old 007 movies and whatnot? For a small subscription fee, you get a ton of movies and basically every TV show worth watching. It's superior to cable and satellite TV in pretty much every applicable way, and at a fraction the cost. It's one of those things you have to actively go out of your way and try to find something wrong with it.

I like that Amazon Prime lets you watch shows too. Been watching Deadwood on there.

Well that's not true at all.

There's a lot of good stuff that isn't on Netflix. Honestly the best of the very best in tv series are not on Netflix.

And other than Netflix original series you don't get new content. Like a show that comes on a network or cable that is still being made? Well you better be okay with being a full calender year at least, and full season late on everything.... but there is enough content to keep you endlessly busy.

Hulu is good about having a lot of current cable/ network shows that Netflix doesn't have and they put them up immediately after they're done airing live.

But between Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and HBO Go you can stream virtually any television show that was ever worth watching and most movies too. And between those 4 services you're still paying way less than cable.

That was an exaggeration. But like you said, it's an endless amount for all practical purposes. I really don't know how anyone could pay the meager amount and not be satisfied with the quality and quantity of content.

Netflix is worth the monthly subscription for House of Cards and Crown alone

I like Netflix until I catch up on my tv shows. Then there will be no point in having it. It's cheap af but I'll probably cancel if they don't add more content soon.

I feel ya. I have had it since Christmas and I have already watched several series and I am waiting on new seasons. The only reason I still give them the 10 bucks per month.

Just discovered Breaking Bad, pretty wild, haven't tried Crown, will give it a look. Like Outback Truckers, good WW2 docs.
