The driver in the Freddy Gray case was acquitted on all counts.
If they couldn't convict the driver, they're not going to convict anyone. Wonder if the overreaching prosecutor is happy now?

They have more than enough reason to take this to the streets. If you can't trust the government to protect you or law enforcement to be held accountable, then they've made the bed for the riots and they better be ready to sleep in them.

Overreaching? How so? Perhaps going for murder was a bit much, and we certainly didn't see all of the evidence, but a guy's neck was snapped while riding in the back of a paddy wagon while in custody of a police force that has a known history of using "rough rides." It's troubling nobody will be held criminally accountable for his death. And if no crime was committed, perhaps there's a problem with the laws as they're written.

She charged everyone that touched the case with something and most of them were charged with something death-related (murder or manslaughter).
One of the bike officers was charged with manslaughter and two others with assault despite being nowhere near Gray when his fatal injury occurred. Likewise, two other officers were charged with manslaughter despite never encountering Gray until after he'd been injured.
That's overcharging. Should the department be sued for their actions and lose? Yes. Should the officers get fired? Most of them, yes. Did they play any significant role in his death? No, not one bit.
Now the driver's a different matter. I fully expected a manslaughter conviction there and there's no doubt that charges were warranted.

Yeah if they'd just start giving these fools manslaughter instead of murder they might actually get a conviction. No way should they not all at least be suspended or something.

Good thing people have guns to protect themselves.

Roger that. I thought you were talking about this case specifically and not the entire incident. I wasn't aware she had charged so many of the officers, though I do think there was wanton negligence by the entire police department.

There was a TON of civil liability for sure.
The city settled with the family for about 6.5 million just a few months after his death. No way in the world they wanted to get that case in front of a jury.
I'm surprised the driver beat every charge. This is the third of the 6 officers to face trial. Thus far there's been one hung jury and two complete acquittals in bench trials. The prosecution can't even convict on the minor misconduct charges.
Contrary to how reports make it sound, there must be some really, really weak evidence for the prosecution to flop that badly.

I think the evidence is more just circumstantial, this easier to inject doubt. I don't think any of the officers had any intent to kill him, but I definitely think they all had little regard for his safety and well being, and that disregard contributed to his death.
Cops are just given more leeway, both with the way laws are written and public sentiment. And that can be a good thing and a bad thing. They should be given more leeway in certain circumstances, but too often they take advantage of that leeway, then circle the wagons to protect their own when that leeway is questioned.

Wait a minute: You know enough about the case to know that the entire police department is guilty of negligence...but you didn't know enough about the case to know what charges were filed, who they were filed against, and what evidence was presented against the accused?
OK. Carry on with your ignorance.

I knew charges were filed against the driver and a couple of the arresting officers. I didn't know charges were filed against almost every cop that came in contact with Gray, as the OP stated happened. I only closely followed it in the week or two after it happened, so no problem admitting I am ignorant on what has happened since then. My opinion on the police department's culpability is based on their initial handling and their documented pattern of "rough rides."
