So, I'm resigning my position today eff 12/7. Before I had the chance to approach my boss he walks around the cubicles and started asking me how things are going. He does this occasionally, but then he asked "how is everything else going?".

He's a hot head type of boss that nobody likes to work for.

I'm going to say there is a 60% chance that he blows his top and sends me home today.

I had that happen once. I turned in my resignation on a Friday AM to the President of the company. Worked the rest of the day and actually was the last person in the office when the Ops Officer called me into his office and tells me to pack my stuff, don't come back and they won't honor my 2 weeks notice....talk about a POS.

I was escorted out of the building at Graybar Electric for going to a competitor. It was surreal. It was my first job out of college and at 22 years old being escorted out by men 40+ years old was unnerving. I was just in inside sales. It wasn't like I was a manager or anything.

With that said, I recommend resigning, quitting, and getting fired on everyone's to-do list.

Yes, I start the new position on 12/7. That's going to be the real kick in the nuts for my current boss since he will get a 13 day notice instead of 14. Add to that Thanksgiving this week where we will be close from Thursday until Monday.

Yeah that actually wouldn't be a bad idea. He's been known to lose his temper.

I've decided I'll never ever ever accept a counter offer anymore. I just had a job offer back in June, but I decided to stay here for a small raise (nowhere near what was offered), but now the same company has offered another position for 30% more than my current salary with similar benefits. I would be the biggest moron to turn it down a second time.

Do you have any unused sick time? I think you might be feeling a bit down this week

landing another job then giving your two weeks to the face of a boss you don't like is amazing

If you have the days to take, take some. These kind of things with that kind of boss almost never goes well.

I've seen somebody take their full measure of vacation, come back in and first day back put in his 2 weeks notice. He knew what kind of boss we had, and he got let go on the spot.

2 weeks paid time off, then he started work at the new job soon thereafter.

just did it now. He was pissed, but it was mainly him trying to spin me to stay. He knows a good bit about the company I'm going to (acts like it at least).

Tried the whole they don't give raises, and you'll be stuck at the same position for many years.

Hope you brought a box and didn't leave any sick/vacation time on the table.

Good luck.

Thanks. It doesn't seem that I'll need the box today. He was begging me to stay an extra week.

Most companies now won't let you use the days once you've submitted the resignation.

Days are also now granted, rather than accrued or earned, so they don't have to pay them out when you leave.

Be gracious on your way out. Next year your old company may buy your new company.

That happened to a friend (not me) who didn't burn, but blew up bridges like a bomber pilot.

Year later new company merged with old company and he had the same old boss. He made it 6 months.
