Hey guys I don't post here much but wanted to share the news of my family and I are moving out west to Portland, OR. I have lived in Florida my entire life and was really looking for a change. Fortunately I am taking a job that will allow my wife to be able to stay at home with our two year old son. Any advise on anyone that has made a long move across country? Any rant friends in the Portland area?

Was moving to Portland last August, but ended up in Montana

Good luck. Portland isn't the easiest place to find affordable housing.

With the wife and kids at home, he might want to live in the burbs. There are some decent ones that are still affordable.

Oh that's awesome Sincere congrats on that! My mom was a stay-at-home mother as well and I feel I benefited from it greatly.

One of the guys on the Aggie board lives in Portland. Name's "agalloch" or something along those lines. Think he just got a job working for Nike. Look for him in the last couple of pages on the OT thread on the A&M board. I'll give you access

Haha well I don't really care about politics to be honest with you so that was never a factor for me.

Congrats. I'm not sure I could handle all the constant rainy days in that area, but best of luck. I visited Portland once for work. Some really beautiful areas outside of the downtown area.

That will certainly help but the whiney SJW types there will make you go 'WTF' a lot.

Have a big sale and off load everything you can!

Once you get to Portland make sure to check out the Columbia River gorge and take the family to Mult Nomah, Bridal Veil and Horsetail falls.

Been out here in PDX since November. Loving it so far. So much to do, so many different, really good beers, and great food.

Shoot me a message and I'll let you know what I think about the different areas and where you might want to live.

I love the west. Just hated southern Cali. Being a sports fan in Pacific time zone is fricking awesome. Most of the big games start at 5:00 or 5:30. When they end by 8:30 you have the rest of the night to do whatever. Really nice to not have to stay up to 10:30 or 11:00 waiting for so many games to end. Clemson/Alabama didn't end until around midnight here. frick that. Good thing about Portland is it doesn't get that hot or cold. Relatively speaking of course.

Learn to Ski or Snowboard, if you haven't already. Mt. Hood is great and an hour away. I bet your son will love it in a couple of years as well.
