Sorry I was nitpicking 
I pay attention to advertising/marketing as a bit of a hobby (that was my major at a&m). You have to be careful when observing commercials of your own confirmation bias. If you go in looking for one demographic to be put in a better light than another, you'll find it. If you look from another perspective, you'll be surprised at how much you find of that, too.
Most important things to remember are who are the target demographic for the advertisement/marketing campaign, and go from there.

Yup, often, which bugs me to no end, the white person in the commercial is a total buffoon.

Years ago when I was studying sociology, one of the theories about commercials was that they can influence social change. Here in the early 21st century they're doing just that.
It's amazing to see companies running ads that are inclusive of minority ethnicities, mixed ethnicities and even targeting gay customers. The market place is the great melting pot after all, it seems.

The really ridiculous thing is they're serious about this nonsense out there. He routinely sends me stuff from his "Ethnic Studies" class (REQUIRED for all Cal students) because he knows how much I enjoy laughing at him.

I have 1 criteria for a commercial:
Does it make me laugh?
Yes= good commercial
No= ignore it from now to oblivion in my mind
