So I'm in Austin for business and after happy hour at Max's Wine Dive, we decide to hit up Fogo for dinner. After dinner, several of us decided to get a tequila shot. We chose the Gran Patron Platinum chilled.

Without a doubt, it was the smoothest tequila I have ever had. Damn near perfection, but at $35 a shot it is the most expensive single shot I ever recall drinking. What is the most expensive shot you have had and did you feel like it was worth it?

No I fricking love Fogo. Although I can't imagine drinking a lot while there. Usually I have like one glass of wine maybe

LOL, OK, I was going to be shocked if someone didn't like Fogo. I've never had a bad meal at one.

We did most of the drinking at Max's. Just a few bottles of wine and those shot's at Fogo.

It's pretty much impossible to have a bad meal there. If you don't like something just don't get it again

Louis, but you dont drink it like a shot

Gran Patron is alright for a ultra premium, more marketing than anything

In North Atlanta (Duluth Actually) at one time there was a restaurant called Kurts German/European spot and it had a gentleman's bar in the back and on a shelf by itself was a bottle I think it was Napoleon Brandy and it was $90 a shot. Somebody bought me one on my birthday in 2005 it was probably the oldest and finest liquor that will ever grace my plebeian lips.

Oh and watch out for that brandy with the pear in the bottle as well. zing!

That I've taken? Idk..probably like 10 bucks.

I would imagine a shot of Johnny Walker Blue would run fairly high.

Also a question for those that have already posted. First, I've never had scotch, and have never had any REALLY nice and fancy whiskey. My question is...if I lucked out one night and someone bought me some $100 shot of some insanely nice liquor, would my unrefined pallete even recognize the experience? What I mean is, would I be able to tell how great it is or would it basically just taste like all the others to me?

It would taste like the other from its region.

Never been big on shots. I did get into some supposedly legit absinthe from Holland(I think) one night. I don't remember tripping, but I did blackout. Tasted terrible.

Gotcha. So IYO, there is no point in me ever splurging and buying a super expensive shot? Not that I really want to anyway I guess other than to say I have.

I don't think I've ever seen someone do a shot of Scotch. It's more a sipping whiskey, but I guess you could shoot it. Scotch is very much an acquired taste. I don't care for it.

Irish whiskey is a good whiskey to shoot.

I've never had scotch at all, and as far as whiskey I guess the "nicest" I've had are the highly marketable ones like Wild Turkey or Makers Mark.

What I was essentially getting at is, if I were to take a shot of a whiskey that is like 10 times as nice as those, would I even be able to really appreciate how much better it is?

Ya, you would. Wild Turkey tastes like rubbing alcohol.
