Jackson, MS. It has every bit of the crime and corruption as Memphis inside the city. The only people that move to Jackson after graduation are the people from there. There are some decent suburbs, but as a whole it sucks. Montgomery if you want to call it a city blows donkey balls. Nawlins is awesome. I think Baton Rouge is a pretty terrible place as well. I would still live there though. Only places over 100k people i wouldn't live in the south are

Jackson isn't a travel hot spot but it is no where near as bad as New Orleans or Memphis when it comes to crime and visible corruption (there is plenty of behind the scenes corruption in every southern state when the "good ol'baws" get together to divide up the pie).

Have you seen what is running Jackson these days? It's every bit as bad as Nola per capita. The crime is totally out of control. The Police chief just recently talked about Jackson being a "revolving door" for the most violent of people. But take a look at who runs that shite hole. I got the hell out of there before I lost my life.

Speaking of which, I only just did a comment on this two weeks ago about the thug who murdered the man at waffle house for his watch - out on parole for a PREVIOUS murder. That idiot lady lib judge gave him 5 years "Anger management" and a 10 year sentence which means he will be committing a 3rd murder in 5 years upon early release. Again, go look who runs that hell hole. It will explain a lot.

Idk, I'm trying to guess what the OP definition of dysfunction might be.

Seems like there would be a single correlation coefficient, publically available, that could sum all of this up in a single metric.

A single stat that could tell us whether or not a town or city is a good place to live.

This is highly inaccurate. Jackson is worse than both in violent crime, per capita, and worse than Memphis in corruption. Jackson has had the worst leadership of any city in the country for the past decade.

Can't believe we're two pages in and I'm the first to mention Augusta. Outside of the National, that place is a grade-A shithole.

From the mouths of gumps,

Jackson is a shithole without a doubt, but this is the silliest metric possible to judge a city.

In terms of notoriety my mind immediately goes to New Orleans, Jackson, and Memphis, but I'm sure there are worse places that have slipped my mind. Plus it's probably really unfair to single these three cities out as I'm sure there are many wonderful things about all of them and many people who really love living or visiting there.

And Jackson, or Jackson area has had pro-baseball since the mid-70s.
