Whatever state is running the most cows and farming the most acreage. Texas

Granted.
Texas, however, is too big to wear any one label other than itself.
Texas is Texas.

Stroke, your one of my favorite A&M posters but Texas is nowhere near "country". North Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are my votes.

Tennessee is country IMO

Tennessee is three states in one. East Tennessee is a redneck as you will find anywhere

Why?

yep...the three "grand divisions" of the state are very different from each other.

Depends on your definition of "Country"
Cowboy Hats and Snakeskin boots - Texas
Redneck - Take your pick/The South
Row Crop - Corn and Soybean States
Livestock Judges/Showers - Oklahoma
Trashy (different than redneck)- Take your Pick/The South
To me, Rednecks and Trashy folks aren't country. If you have a significant beach community, I don't really consider you country either.

Maybe Texas is big enough to have pockets of what I'd consider "country" but other than east Texas (maybe) I havn't seen them. Of course I've only lived in Houston for 4 years but I've noticed that people here consider themselves "country" and they are far from it.
It's just different from where I grew up where it's beyond any doubt "country". Don't get me wrong though, I've thoroughly enjoyed living in Texas.
My sister lives in Navasota and she tells me it's somewhat similar to where we grew up.

I just think that "country" has more than one connotation, but none of them I would consider redneck. Texas country is different than Louisiana country

A buddy of mine here has promised to take me deer hunting on his lease in hill country this year. I'm pretty pumped. That might change my thinking.

I'm jelly. The hill country is beautiful

True. I still find Tennessee "country" though. You have everything from Appalachia to the birthplace (and arguably Capitol) of country music.
Texas is more of the "western" connotation for me because of the cowboy/cattle associations.

Have you been to west Texas I would go out on a limb and say west Texas is more country than east Texas. Its a different kind of country from east Texas but its very country visit Big spring or San Angelo for proof
