Yes. Without a doubt. Proof: Old music is outselling new music for the first time in history

Terrible. Just terrible. And get off my lawn.

Nah, not where I'm going with it at all.

My point is that the incessant putdowns of ANY older generation against the younger is tired, silly, pointless, and demonstrably incorrect. Hell, the quotes at the start of the article were from folks from the 4th freaking century

Millenials aren't taking this country or the world to hell, just like none of y'all did before and our replacements won't after us

I see the point you're trying to make, but the survey you're using to support your assertion that "millenials are some of the most competitive folks on the planet right now" doesn't say that at all.

It simply says more millenials see themselves as such. I may see myself as a finely toned example of virile manhood at the peak athletic time of my life, but that won't change the fact that I'm a 20 pound overweight 48-year old.

I'm not even arguing that millenails aren't as driven or maybe even more driven than baby boomers. In 2016, I'm certain they are because of the mostly age-related reasons I stated earlier. What I am saying is that you can't say that they're more driven than a post-war baby boomer was in 1970. There's simply no way to make that determination either way.

I'm sure millenials' infatuation with all things "vintage" and the unprecedented ease of access to music of all eras has nothing to do with it....

I agree.

The putdowns (while traditional and not likely to abate), are just kinda ridiculous.

We all talk about the new generation.

Take it from an old guy, you will too.

Damn right, it doesn't. And quit trying to manipulate my data while you're getting off my lawn.

The trend suggests I will. My intention is to be someone who refrains from so doing as I age, though.

I mean, it's not like it's every single older person that engages in this behavior. It's pervasive, but not ineluctable.

The author of the article was older than the millenials about whom we wrote.

I gotta go with the baby boomer generation. They've run this country into the ground.

While millenials are frickheads for the most part, they are going to make working in an office obsolete.

I merely inspected the undercarriage of your data. I asked politely and the data obliged. I think your data liked it.

Dirty, promiscuous data you got there, sir

You're right. Questions are bad. All to create pointless statistics that mean nothing. It's done in a way that confirms their bias.

Based on my professional experiences of hiring employees, millennials are "less" competitive, pay less attention to detail, are less reliable, have shorter attention spans (see attention to detail), seem less knowledgeable (what's being taught in the classrooms? or perhaps, what's not being taught?), and the bigger issue, they seem entitled. They expect to be given the office with the desk with the window view on their first day on the job...they seem far less driven than others..

Of course, this is based on my "objective" personal experience, and there are always exceptions to the rule, this experience ranges from the IT-Business arena to the Medical field.

TIFWIW

It would seem that your experiences ARE the exception to the rule

You know, for all the pining folks do along these lines, none of the people I knew/met either in college or as a young professional have ever expected such right off the bat.

Hell, my wife and I and some of our junior military friends recently separated and all of us were prepared to humble ourselves and start from the bottom in our new career fields. Not something I can say for quite a few of your peers who got out as senior military members.

We can swap anecdotes till the cows come home, but the bottom line is, like your generation, and the generations before you, the overwhelming majority of us want to work hard and earn our keep.

You can disagree all you want, but you're really just selling an incredibly large, diverse group of people short and falling into the same stereotypical way of thinking that caused your predecessors to doubt you and your peers.

It's counterproductive and sad.

A rare moment of disagreement with TBird from me.

I find redandblack's opinions mostly true, but of my interactions with Tbird would make him an exception to the rule.

While T is of millennial age, he in no way personifies the generation. On the other hand I know guys in their late 30's that 100% personify it perfectly.

Lots of people say they aren't competitive. Because not everyone is competitive.
