For some reason I was having trouble getting the video to load, so in case it wasn't just me:

quote:

A jury has awarded $500,000 to a man who recorded his surgery only to learn that a doctor working on him spent the time making offensive comments as he was under anesthesia.

The unidentified patient, who is from Vienna, Virginia, was having a colonoscopy in April 2013 and pressed record on his smartphone beforehand.

He wanted to be sure he didn't miss any of his doctor's instructions following the procedure - when he may still be groggy from the anesthesia - in case they pertained to his aftercare.

But when he listened back to the recording, he heard the anesthesiologist saying she wanted to punch him and accuse him of having a sexually transmitted disease while he was under sedation.

I had an EGD this morning, was happy to be knocked the frick out, and my Doctor was rocking some Crosby, Stills, and Nash as I drifted off. I couldn't care less if they mocked the frick out of me during the procedure. Just fix my shite.

shite, I hope someone mocks me tomorrow so I can sue them and get shitloads of money from them. That would be pretty sweet. Words hurt (if you're a pussy...)

This is what's wrong with our legal system. No malpractice. No damage. Now the doctor's insurance company is going to pick up the tab for a half million. They'll pass the loss off to the rest of the doctors and the doctors will pass the insurance increases on to the patients. Basically, we're ALL paying for what this doctor said to an unconscious patient.

Actually, its not malpractice. The doctor apparently did her job effectively. It might be slander or some other civil thing, but its her arse. Not the insurance company in this case I think.

Dude is being an arse to sue for this though. I think I'd take it to a medical ethics board but I dont think I would have sued for damages. Dude was knocked out and got what he came for.

As for me, I think I would have played her the tape then told her its blow job or Im suing.

Before everyone goes off the rails about this:
quote:

In addition to their vicious commentary, the doctors discussed avoiding the man after the colonoscopy, instructing an assistant to lie to him, and then placed a false diagnosis on his chart.

quote:

Ingham then mocked the man for attending Mary Washington College, once an all-women’s school, and wondered aloud whether her patient was gay, the suit states. Then the anesthesiologist said, “I’m going to mark ‘hemorrhoids’ even though we don’t see them and probably won’t,” and did write a diagnosis of hemorrhoids on the man’s chart, which the lawsuit said was a falsification of medical records.Ingham then mocked the man for attending Mary Washington College, once an all-women’s school, and wondered aloud whether her patient was gay, the suit states. As soon as they went the route of the statements above, they were screwed. If they had simply made comments, it probably wouldn't be a significant issue.

A lot of times people don't take the time to read more in-depth or do research, because of an error of bad journalism or laziness -- so thanks for looking it up.

Eh, you can thank the OTL for having a long thread on this already I appreciate it though. I just don't want a guy getting slammed where he was probably in the right.

Yeah, my bad. Falsifying medical records is bullshite. If it were just a little shite talk it would be different.

Man, when you have a hemorrhoid, you fricking KNOW.

Anesthesiologists perform a very sensitive role for which they are very well compensated. If the bitch is joking around and making derogatory comments about a patient she's putting under, I would not trust her professional skills.
